Final Road Trip Begins at App State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final road weekend of the season will see the Texas State men's basketball team (12-15, 5-9 Sun Belt) take a trip to the Carolinas. First up is a meeting with App State (14-13, 7-7 Sun Belt) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT inside the Holmes Convocation Center.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can also tune into KTSW 89.9 FM and the Varsity Sports Network app to listen to Bill Culhane on the call.
 
About Texas State
Saturday saw a heartbreaking loss as the Bobcats fell on a buzzer-beating layup to Old Dominion. That afternoon saw five players score in double-figures for TXST for the second straight game. Leading the way was Mason Harrell with 17 points while also dishing out five assists. Tyrel Morgan set new career-highs with three made three-pointers and three blocks.
 
Harrell increased his career point total to 1,430 to match Bruce Featherston for sixth in program history. The senior guard paces the Bobcats in scoring (15.9), made field goals (130), made three-pointers (34), made free throws (87), free throw percentage (84.5), steals (24) and is tied with Drue Drinnon for assists (54).
 
Nighael Ceaser enters putting up 9.1 ppg and 6.6 rpg while blocking a team best 22 shots. Morgan is netting 8.9 ppg and grabbing 6.3 rpg. Nate Martin is the only other Texas State player scoring at least seven points a contest at 7.8. He is also leading the team with a 49.6 field goal percentage.
 
About App State
The Mountaineers come in having lost three of their last four games. The lone win in the span came on the road last Thursday at ULM. App State is 9-6 at home with a 4-3 mark against Sun Belt opponents.
 
Three Mountaineers are averaging double-figures in points led by Donovan Gregory at 12.0. He also leads the squad in made field goals (116), made free throws (73), assists (113) and steals. Tyree Boykin enters netting 11.2 ppg with 42 made-three-pointers. Putting up 11.0 ppg is Terence Harcum, who has made a team-high 50 treys and converted 84.5% of his charity stripe attempts.
 
CJ Huntley is the only player to start all 27 games. He comes in grabbing 6.2 rpg and is adding 8.6 ppg. Justin Abson enters with team highs in field goal percentage (62.3) and blocks (59).
 
All-Time Series
Texas State holds a 9-7 lead in the all-time series. Last year saw the Bobcats win 68-66 in San Marcos. When playing the Mountaineers on the road, TXST is 2-4 with the last game being on Feb. 8, 2020, that ended in favor of APP 60-57.
 
Last time the Bobcats won in Boone was a 70-69 contest on Jan. 12, 2019.
