Texas State Closes Out Marshall with 64-60 Road Win

Bobcats improved to 5-2 in conference road games this year

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Texas State only led for four minutes on Saturday at Marshall but it was the most pivotal four minutes as the Bobcats kept it close all game before coming back to beat the Thundering Herd, 64-60, at the Cam Henderson Center.

Texas State (18-7, 10-4 Sun Belt) trailed for the first six minutes of the fourth quarter until Ja'Kayla Bowie hit a wide-open three-pointer from the corner in front of the Texas State bench at the 3:40 mark to make it 55-all. Bowie's triple erased a lead for the Thundering Herd (15-10, 8-6 Sun Belt) that was held since early in the third quarter.

While the two sides would go on to be tied two more times in the following two minutes, Jaeda Reed made both of her free throws with 24 seconds left after being fouled following an offensive rebound to give the Bobcats their decisive lead.

The Bobcats helped take the win thanks to outshooting Marshall, 46 percent to 37 percent, and making 13-of-19 free throws while the Thundering Herd were only 7-of-15 at the line.

Texas State also outrebounded Marshall, 41-34.

Da'Nasia Hood led the Bobcats in scoring for the 11th time this year with 17 points, but Lauryn Thompson joined her in double-figures with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. The pair combined for 32 of Texas State's 64 points while also bringing in 13 rebounds and shooting 13-of-21 (61.9 percent).

Texas State outshot Marshall in the first half – 48 percent to 33 percent – but the Thundering Herd used 17 points off 12 Bobcat turnovers to carry a 27-23 lead into halftime.

Marshall never led by more than four points after the first quarter while Texas State's largest advantage in the game was the four points in the final margin.

The Bobcats had 12 turnovers in the first half, compared to Marshall's four. In the second half, Texas State only turned the ball over five times while Marshall did seven times.
