Volleyball Season Comes to an End in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas State volleyball's 2023 season will come to a close after losing 3-0 to SMU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Things started off even between the two sides but when SMU went on a 4-0 run to go up 14-6, the Bobcats had to start to battle back. Towards the end of the set the Bobcats were able to string a run of their own together to come back within five points, but it wasn't enough to win the set. SMU won the opening set 25-20.

The Bobcats hit well in the second set with a .321 attack line, but with just 11 kills it wasn't enough to find the set win. SMU hit .353 on the set with 18 kills and after holding a steady lead throughout the second set, the Bobcats couldn't make up the deficit and SMU won the second set 25-19.

Despite the Bobcats going up 2-0 to start the set, SMU went on a 11-2 run to go up 4-11. From there, the Bobcats tried to fight to come back but to no avail. SMU hit .382 in the final set with 15 kills to win the set 25-16 and sweep the match.

WHAT HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET SAID:
"A little frustrated tonight, I didn't think that was our best performance. When you play someone like SMU you have to bring your best. That is not who we are that is not how our season has been. We just were not ourselves tonight and that is what the outcome shows."
