Volleyball Wins at Troy, Improve to 10-3 in Conference Play

Box Score TROY, Alabama — The Bobcats went into Troy, who were previously undefeated at home in conference play, and got a four-set win on Friday night. After going down in set one, the Bobcats went three-straight to get the win and improve to 10-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Things started off slow for the Bobcats in the opening set when Troy came out with a lot of firepower and went on a run to take an 11-5 lead. From there, despite the Bobcats efforts, the Trojans were able to keep building on their lead. After going down 21-13 there was too great of a comeback to make for the Bobcats to make so after losing set one, the team reset and rallied for set two.

Set two was all Bobcats, though. After the opening set, the Trojans never had a lead for the remainder of the match. After going up early 5-2 thanks to a pair of aces from Maggie Walsh and Jackie Lee, the Bobcats got the ball rolling and carried all the momentum. That momentum carried them to a 11-4 lead and didn't let up. The set was highlighted by a seven-kill performance from KJ Johnson that helped the team to an impressive .323 hitting percentage in the second set. Johnson's seven kills and the Trojan's seven attack errors helped the Bobcats level the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 win in set two.

Set three was more of a battle between the two sides, but the Bobcats remained in control the entire way. After getting out to a hot start and going 3-0 including a kill and block from Jade Defraeye back-to-back, the Bobcats controlled the tempo. Going up early again, this time 11-3, the true fashion of Bobcat volleyball showed out. The team had 15 kills and five blocks in the third set, with a team hitting percentage of .316. Johnson tacked on another four kills to her eventual 17-kill night to help the Bobcats get a 25-20 win in set three.

Set four was about putting an exclamation mark on the match, and that's what the Bobcats did. Again going out on a 3-0 start was the beginning of another dominant set from Texas State. Samantha Wunsch came alive in set four for five kills on nine attempts and a block to help the Bobcats get the win in four sets. The Bobcats' .382 hitting percentage paired with more errors from the Trojans helped the team to a 25-14 win in set four. Texas State is one of just three schools (Louisville, Arkansas) to hold the Trojans to 14 or fewer points in a single set this season.

With tonight's win the Bobcats move to first place in the SBC West Division.
