SAN MARCOS, Texas – After returning a kick for a 100-yard touchdown and totaling more than 200 all-purpose yards in a Texas State victory,
Kole Wilson was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 13, the conference office announced on Monday.
Â
Wilson, a sophomore out of Katy, Texas, had his first career kick return touchdown in the second quarter of the Bobcats' 52-44 win over South Alabama in the regular season finale. He became the second Bobcat this season to return a kick for a touchdown and only the third in the last eight seasons.
Â
He also finished the game with a personal-best 226 all-purpose yards after he added a career-high 102 receiving yards on six catches. Wilson had two total touchdowns in the win, helping the Bobcats score a touchdown on offense, defense and special teams in a game for the first time since 2012.
Â
Wilson is third Bobcat to win a Sun Belt player of the week honor this season and first with the special teams accolade.
TJ Finley was named the offensive player of the week in Week 1 while
Brian Holloway was the conference's top defensive player in Week 4.
Â
In his first season as a Bobcat, Wilson has 1,104 all-purpose yards and 10 total touchdowns.
Â
Wilson is the first Bobcat to win a Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week award since kicker
Seth Keller earned the honor in 2022.
Â
The Bobcats, who finished the regular season with an FBS program record-tying seven wins, are awaiting their bowl destination, which will be announced in the coming days.
