NORMAN, Okla. – Tuesday night saw Texas State (1-2) put up a fight throughout the contest but fell to Oklahoma (3-0) 93-54 in the Lloyd Noble Center.
Â
"It was a tough loss, and we were a little shorthanded tonight. They are a good team with guys that are big, athletic and strong and made it difficult for us all night. They hit open shots and made us pay for any mistakes that we made," said head coach
Terrence Johnson. "I liked our fight. There were times we made some runs, but we definitely got to get back the drawing board, get healthier and get a little bit better moving forward."
Â
Pacing the Bobcats offensively was
Dylan Dawson with 13 points behind three made three-pointers. Also reaching double-figures was
Joshua O'Garro with 10 points.
Â
Kaden Gumbs dished out a game-high five assists while adding nine points. Defensively,
Brandon Love blocked five shots to set a new career-high mark.
Â
The Sooners scored the first seven points of the game until O'Garro had a putback layup to put the Bobcats on the scoreboard. Two free throws from Dawson would cut the deficit to three. However, it would be all OU the rest of the first half as the hosts shot 56.3% (18-32) from the field.
Â
Six straight points allowed Texas State to cut the deficit to 50-33 nearly two and a half minutes into the second half. The Sooners stretched their advantage to 30 after using a 14-2 run to take control of the game. The lone points for TXST during that scoring run came from
Christian Turner.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is the home opener on Friday when I-35 rival UTSA comes to town. Tip is scheduled for 7:15 pm or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's basketball game that will be played beforehand.
