Volleyball Split Weekend with Louisiana After Five Set Loss Saturday Evening

SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Bobcats split its two game series with Louisiana after suffering a 3-2 loss on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats hit the gas out of the gate in set one. The team hit .633 through the opening set, highlighted by eight kills from Samantha Wunsch. The team hit .633, the highest of any individual set this season, with no errors. The Bobcats took a 5-0 run to make the score 14-7 that was too much of a deficit for the Ragin' Cajuns to come back from. After holding an 18-12 lead Texas State went on another 4-0 run with Bailey Hanner serving. That paired with a pair of kills by Jade Defraeye helped TXST to coast to what ultimately became a 25-14 win.

Set two was a back and forth affair and it showed in the final score that saw Louisiana squeeze out a 32-30 set two win. Both sides hit below .200 despite the high score due to some attack errors. The largest lead of the set came from the Ragin' Cajuns when they went up 20-12. Despite the eight point lead though, Texas State battled back to draw things level at 23. It was a back and forth affair until finally Louisiana was able to find the two point gap again off a kill by Shyia Richardson.

The match flipped on its head in set three when the visitors started swinging similarly to how Texas State did in set one. With 16 kills and zero attack errors in set three, Louisiana took set three 25-15.

Set four found the Bobcats back in their rhythm. The set stayed close throughout, but Texas State was able to hold a 2-4 point lead on the Ragin' Cajuns most the way through. After going up 19-15, highlighted by six more kills from Wunsch, Texas State won set four 25-21.

Heading into set five, Louisiana got out to a hot start. After taking a 4-1 lead, Texas State took a time out to regroup. From there, the Bobcats held close but it wasn't enough. Louisiana's defense came alive in set five with 4.0 blocks and six digs, Texas State hit -.059 in the fifth set and that was enough to give Louisiana the match win with a 15-9 score in set five.

WHAT HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET SAID:
"I'm frustrated. We've been harping on some little details and trying to take care of that and that's what bit us in the butt today. Their libero is really really good, she had 29 digs. We talked about keeping it away from her. So again, frustrated. I think at home we should be able to buck up and win set five if it goes into set five. But, we have to get better each match. We're going to back and watch this match to see what we can do to get better, but I think the best thing I can say is frustrated."
