Extra Yard for Teachers Program Donates $6,000 to San Marcos CISD

Texas State recognized the donation at the Sept. 23 football game

SAN MARCOS, Texas – To cap the College Football Playoff Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) Week, the EYFT program donated $6,000 to San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Dual Language Program. A special in-game recognition and check presentation took place as part of Hispanic Heritage Day at the Texas State football game against Nevada at Bobcat Stadium on Sept. 23.

The gift by Extra Yard for Teachers will impact around 1,200 students across four schools in the San Marcos community and go towards textbooks, training for teachers, additional dual language and bilingual resources for families, and field trips to cultural institutions.

"Alongside the CFP Foundation and its Extra Yard for Teachers Program, we are proud to work with San Marcos CISD and support its vital dual language program," said Don Coryell, Texas State Director of Athletics. "Anything we can do to directly impact the people in our community in a positive way is important to our focus of building a strong town-gown relationship and deepening the connection between the Bobcats of yesterday, today and tomorrow."

The impacted schools include Bowie Elementary, De Zavala Elementary, Hernandez Elementary, and Mendez Elementary.

"Texas State University and Texas State Athletics continue to be invested in the success of our students, staff and programs in San Marcos CISD," said Andrew Fernandez, San Marcos CISD Chief of Communications. "The Extra Yard for Teachers program is one of many ways the University partners with SMCISD and our community is truly grateful for their ongoing support."

Initiated in 2015, Extra Yard for Teachers Week is a nationwide celebration of teachers, led by the CFP Foundation. It uses the platform of college football to show appreciation for educators in communities across the country.

The Extra Yard for Teachers initiative has collectively invested over $68 million in support of education and impacted 500,000 teachers and more than 10 million students nationwide.

Texas State and the CFP Foundation have supported a variety of initiatives in the San Marcos community over the years, including helping build the music program at De Zavala Elementary in 2022 and funding the "Community Connections Corner" in 2021.

The mission of the CFP Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers is to elevate the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers in four core areas: resources, recognition, professional development, recruitment and retention.
