States Up Podcast: Jeff Foster

Texas State great and 13-year NBA veteran discusses his time as a Bobcat and more

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the newest States Up podcast, Texas State great Jeff Foster joins to talk about this weekend's court dedication in his name as well as the reunion of the 1997 Southland Conference championship team. He also looks back at his journey from unknown recruit to 13-year NBA career.

Foster was a part of two Southland Conference championship teams at Texas State (then known as Southwest Texas State). But in his early days as a Bobcat, he and the 1997 team won the regular season and tournament championships, lifting them to the NCAA Tournament. The team remains as the last one in program history to reach the NCAA postseason dance.

Since leaving San Marcos, Foster played all 13 years of his career for the Indiana Pacers. He has also been inducted into the Texas State Hall of Honor, named a Texas State Distinguished Alumni, and had his jersey retired in Strahan Arena. Now, he is having the court at Strahan Arena named in his honor after the generous gift made by him and his family to further support the growth of the men's basketball program.

In the podcast, Foster looks back at his Bobcat career, the experience of playing in the NCAA Tournament, how he went unnoticed as a high school player to a sought-after recruit after his senior season at Madison High School in San Antonio, what it was like to be drafted – which involved a day of the draft workout – and more.

The podcast can be heard on SpotifyApple, Amazon Music, and Google.
