States Up Podcast: Mack Leftwich

New offensive coordinator shares his philosophy for an offense and what he has learned so quickly in his career

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the latest States Up podcast, Texas State football offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich, who joined the program in mid-December, talks about his transition from down the road to Texas State and what fans can look for in the new-look Bobcat offense in 2023.

A former college quarterback at UTEP, Leftwich arrives in San Marcos with a coach mindset ingrained in him – his dad was a football coach for 30 years – while also a fresh look at it all – he is 28 years old. Despite the seasoned youthful experience, Leftwich has already left a mark on the game as he coached three different All-Americans in his time at UIW. This past year, in addition to calling the plays for the nation's No. 1 scoring offense, he helped tutor Lindsey Scott Jr., who won the Walter Payton Award which is regarded as the "FCS Heisman."

In the podcast, Leftwich shares what he will look for in a quarterback at Texas State, why he chose to work with GJ Kinne at Incarnate Word despite an opportunity to be an analyst at Washington State last season, what he learned from his one year as a high school football coach and geometry teacher in the state of Texas, and more of his offensive philosophy.

The podcast can be heard on SpotifyApple, Amazon Music, and Google.
