States Up Podcast: Calvin Hill

Running back shares the meaning behind his new jersey number and more

SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the newest States Up podcast, Texas State running back Calvin Hill shares overcoming adversity with the loss of a friend and family member in 2020 to his relationships with teammates and coaching staff that help empower him to make big plays.

Hill was the team's leading rusher last year and has ran for more than 1,200 yards in 29 career games as a Bobcat. The Baytown, Texas native has also averaged more than 5.0 yards a carry in each of the last two seasons, something that has not been done by a Bobcat in six years.

His journey to being one of the best in the Texas State running back room has not gone without its challenges, though. In 2020, he lost his roommate as well as his brother, which not only taught him personal lessons but allowed him to guide his teammate Jahmyl Jeter through similar experiences in 2021. Hill also changed his jersey number this year – going from No. 22 to No. 11 – which allows him to pay tribute to his late father.

Hill shares that and more in this episode of States Up.

The podcast can be heard on Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music, and Google.
