SAN MARCOS, TX — Texas State's third-year volleyball head coach Sean Huiet, freshman outside hitter Maggie Walsh and freshman middle blocker Bailey Hanner all met with the media on Saturday, August 20 following the program's Maroon & Gold scrimmage earlier in the day.

Check out the top quotes from the press conference:

Head Coach Sean Huiet

(On thoughts from Saturday's scrimmage)

"Yeah, that was fun. We are eager to have a real opponent on the other side. But it was fun being able to separate into two teams, with 22 people it's easy to do that, and essentially simulate a home match. It was the first time they were able to put their jerseys on, run out of the tunnel, play in front of a crowd and start getting ready for our season. Overall, I was very pleased and a lot of individual play today."

(On his thoughts about the freshmen class)

"They remind me a lot of the class with Janell (Fitzgerald) and Emily (DeWalt). They all came here highly recruited but wanted to come to Texas State and join our culture to do things that we haven't done before. We knew how good they were, sometimes it just takes that transition to the college level, but all six of them are court ready right now and that's good news."

(On his thoughts about Maggie and Bailey's performance during the scrimmage)

"I thought they both did well today. Today did wonders for getting them ready for the season. We had a great crowd today, too. While we are excited to have someone else on the other side of the net, today helped get the jitters and nerves out as well. It'll be nice to have a real opponent on the other side (of the net) next weekend. We are talking a lot about controlling what we can control and just getting better every time we step out onto the court."

OH Maggie Walsh

(On what it's been like being a part of the Texas State volleyball program so far)

"Coming in, I didn't really expect for all the older girls to show us all the drills we are supposed to be doing in season. They've all been really welcoming and great at just showing us the way."

(On how playing multiple positions opens the court up for her)

"I love playing back row, but also going to the front run is fun, too. I'm not as big as everyone else on the front row, but I like playing front row to be able to seem bigger and play bigger."

(On what it was liking playing inside her home arena in front of her home fans for the first time)

"Coming into today, I was definitely really nervous. But, as the match went on, I chilled out a little and became more comfortable. The girls, they're so welcoming and do everything they can to make us as comfortable as possible. It was pretty cool."

MB Bailey Hanner

(On what it's been like being a part of the Texas State volleyball program so far)

"I think it's been awesome. It's a great group of girls and the older girls were so welcoming to us and taking us under their wing. They've really made us feel comfortable and apart of the team now."

(On what was working for her in the middle during the scrimmage)

"I was really just trying to focus on my foot work, honestly, as well as just communicating at the net. I was just talking to my teammates about what I saw and where the ball was going. Just trying my foot work really helped me get to where I needed to be at the net."

(On what it was liking playing inside her home arena in front of her home fans for the first time)

"We were nervous stepping into the arena with a bunch of people watching, but then you realize you're just playing volleyball with the girls you've been with all summer. And then you start focusing on just playing volleyball and what's important."
