SAN MARCOS, Texas- Texas State (4-7, 0-1) beat the Gonzaga Bulldogs (6-5, 0-0) 4-3 at home that came down to a thrilling deciding match.
"Today was an unbelievably close match with Gonzaga, couldn't be more proud of the team as a whole," said assistant head coach
Kendall Brooks. "The top of our lineup brought it today, Hana, Kate, and Mae all winning. It was a big deal for us to come out again strong in doubles and get the doubles point. Couldn't be happier to get the win at home against a really tough team and looking forward to getting back to conference play."
Doubles
Renata Gonzalez and
Kylee Shannon dropped the first doubles match 6-1.
Mae McCutcheon and
Jadeh Chan picked the momentum back up when they won the No. 2 doubles match 6-3.
Hana Kvapilova and
Kate Malazonia clinched the doubles point defeating Adrianna Sosnowska and Cate Broerman in No. 1 doubles 6-3.
This is the second doubles victory of the season for the Bobcats.
Singles
Kate Malazonia clinched the win for Texas State with her thrilling 6-1, 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-2) win against Adrianna Sosnowska on line two.
Assistant Coach Brooks explains Kate's win, "A huge win for Kate at line two. She had five match points in the second set, and wasn't able to close it out, and then saved three match points in the third set and was able to get it back to a tiebreaker and win. Super proud of her for that mental toughness."
Hana Kvapilova increased her singles win streak to three with her 6-2, 6-4 victory in flight No. 1 against Cate Broerman.
Mae McCutcheon was the third Bobcat to get a singles win, she defeated Adrianna Sosnowska 6-4, 6-2.
