BOONE, N.C. — With just under three minutes haven been played in Texas State's 73-55 loss at App State on Saturday afternoon,
Tianna Eaton checked into the contest. Seventy seconds later, Eaton connected on a 3-point attempt to cut the Bobcats' deficit.
The basket was a sign of things to come for the California native.
Three minutes after hitting from long range, Eaton took a
Kennedy Taylor pass and sank a mid-range jumper to tie the game at 10-10. By quarter's end, she had five of the Bobcats' 12 first-quarter points. She also brought down three rebounds.
Things kept going for Eaton into the second quarter as she pushed her point total to seven with a jumper less than 12 seconds into the next 10-minute stanza. She was credited with a steal 33 seconds later than led to a
Jaeda Reed jump to push Texas State ahead 16-15. When
Da'Nasia Hood converted a layup with 2:35 remaining before halftime, it was Eaton credited with the assist. She even scored the final two points for the Bobcats in the first half with a pair of free throws.
The third quarter was more defensive focused for the combo guard as she credited with a block and a defensive rebound to go along with a jumper. She went on to add three more rebounds to her total in the fourth quarter.
FROM HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE
"We've improved in a lot in multiple phases of the game lately, including turnovers and decision making, but we can't afford to take days off on the defensive end of the court. If we want to get to where we want to be by the time the conference tournament arrives, we have to start focusing harder on the defensive end of the court."
