SAN MARCOS, Texas – Redshirt junior
Levi Bell and redshirt senior
Kordell Rodgers were key pieces to the standout Texas State defense in 2022 and the two were recognized for their efforts on Thursday as they were both named Dave Campbell's All-Texas College First Team selections, the publication announced.
A defensive lineman from Cedar Park, Texas, Bell had a career-high 66 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and seven quarterback hurries in 12 games this year. The 13.5 TFLs were an FBS program record and ninth-most overall by a Bobcat in the school's history.
Bell has garnered several accolades after his stellar season, including being named a third team All-American by PFF and an All-Sun Belt honoree by coaches and media (second team) as well as PFF (first team).
For Rodgers, the All-Texas selection adds to his PFF All-Sun Belt Second Team award after he led the team in interceptions with a career-high four. The four interceptions, which are currently tied for 17th-most in the country, were the most by a Bobcat since
Jarron Morris had four in 2020.
In his final season as a Bobcat, Rodgers had 24 tackles (16 solo) and a pass breakup in nine games. The cornerback suffered a season-ending injury against ULM in early November.
The Texas State defense was among the program's best in its FBS era in total defense, rush defense, scoring defense and TFLs. The Bobcats finished the regular season top-50 in the country in total defense for the first time in program history.
