Homestand Concludes Saturday against Troy

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The five-game homestand for the Texas State men's basketball team (7-7, 0-1 Sun Belt) concludes on Saturday when Troy (8-6, 0-1 Sun Belt) comes to town. Tip will be at 4 p.m. inside Strahan Arena.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox calling the action. Fans can also tune into KTSW 89.9 FM and the Varsity Sports Network app to listen to Clint Shields on the call.
 
About Texas State
Conference play began with a four-point loss to ULM on Thursday. It is the fourth consecutive year that TXST has dropped its Sun Belt opener. Mason Harrell netted a game-high 14 points with 12 coming in the second half, as he is currently putting up a team-high 18.0 points per game.
 
Nighael Ceaser enters having grabbed at least 10 rebounds in three straight games. He is the first Bobcat to do so since Matt Staff from Feb. 22-29, 2012. For the season, Ceaser is grabbing a 9.7 rebounds a contest and blocking 1.8 shots a game, both tops on the squad, while contributing 11.0 ppg.
 
The trio of Drue Drinnon, Davion Sykes and Harrell have all recorded 15 steals. Brandon Love enters with a team-high 15 blocks and he is followed by Tuongthach Gatkek and Ceaser with 13 and 11 rejections, respectively.
 
About Troy
The Trojans began Sun Belt play with a 64-60 loss at league newcomer Southern Miss. It was their second straight defeat after ending non-conference action with a three-point setback at home to Mercer. Troy is 2-4 in true road gams with victories over Florida State and Southeastern Louisiana.
 
Four players are putting up at least 10 points a contest led by Christyon Eugene at 12.1 He also leads the team with 40.9% shooting on three-pointers. Nelson Phillips enters scoring 11.6 ppg and has a team best 31 steals. Zay Williams leads the Trojans with 6.5 rpg and is netting 11.5 ppg while Aamer Muhammad is averaging 10.1 ppg with a team-high 42 assists.
 
All-Time Series
A 9-6 advantage is held by Texas State in the all-time series. Last season saw the teams split the season series with the visiting squad winning each contest. The Bobcats closed out the 2021-22 regular season with a 66-62 at Troy. When hosting the Trojans, TXST is 5-2 but has seen Troy win the last two meetings.
