Men’s Hoops Back Home Sunday Against Rice

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (5-3) returns home in Strahan Arena for the first time in over three weeks when it hosts Rice (5-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox. Fans can also catch the action on the Varsity Sports Network with Clint Shields on the call.
 
About Texas State
The Bobcats wrapped up six consecutive games away from San Marcos with a 10-point win at Lamar on Thursday. TXST won four of its contests including the program's first-ever win over a Pac-12 opponent and first victory against a Power 5 program in 24 years.
 
Mason Harrell paces Texas State with 19.5 points per game while shooting 47.3% from the field, 41.9% on three-pointers and 80.4% at the free throw line. He has also handed out 19 assists and recorded eight steals. Also with a double-digit scoring mark is Tyrel Morgan at 10.4 ppg and is grabbing a team-high 6.0 rebounds a contest.
 
Brandon Davis comes in with 9.9 ppg and both he and Dylan Dawson have knocked down 10 three-pointers. Davion Sykes and Davis have both recorded a team-high 12 steals. Brandon Love is coming off a four-block game that increased his season total to 13 rejections.
 
About Rice
The Owls come in having won four straight games after defeating Prairie View A&M on Wednesday. Their other three victories during the streak have been against Houston Christian, Georgia Southern and Western Michigan. Both of Rice's losses have come on the road to Middle Tennessee and Pepperdine.
 
Travis Evee leads the Owls offensively at 18.0 ppg with 21 treys. Also averaging double-digits is Quincy Olivari at 14.3 ppg with half of his 30 made shots coming from beyond the arc. Of his 39 rebounds, all but one has come on the defensive glass. Max Fielder enters grabbing a team-high 6.7 rpg and leads the squad with 5.4 apg.
 
All-Time Series
Sunday will be the 13 meeting between the program and has seen each team win six games apiece. The Bobcats have won the last three meetings with two of them taking place on the road. Last season saw TXST claim an 80-69 road victory behind a 24-point game from Harrell. Texas State is 1-2 all-time when hosting the Owls with the lone victory being by a 74-60 scoring on Nov. 28, 2018.
