Bobcats look for continued success in Louisiana following early momentum

SAN MARCOS, TX — The Texas State volleyball program had such a good time while it was in Monroe, La., two weeks ago, the Bobcats are heading back to the Bayou State for a two-match weekend against Louisiana.

The weekend's action, which can be seen on ESPN+ both nights, will begin on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m., while Saturday's action is slated to start at 2 p.m. Both Louisiana (9-4, 3-1) and Texas State (11-5, 3-1) currently sit tied — along with South Alabama — atop the Sun Belt Conference's West Division with a 3-1 (.750) record. The Jaguars (9-7, 3-1) play Arkansas State (5-11, 0-4) this weekend.

CAJUN SEASONING
  • Texas State will enter this weekend's two-match series at Louisiana with a 22-3 all-time record against the Ragin' Cajuns dating back to the first-ever meeting during the 1973 season.
  • Texas State won the first 13 consecutive meetings against Louisiana, before the Ragin' Cajuns won their first-ever match against the Bobcats with a five-set win in Lafayette, La., on Oct. 28, 2017.
  • In matches played in Lafayette, La., Texas State is 9-2 against Louisiana, including wins in the last four straight matches.
  • Under third-year head coach Sean Huiet, Texas State is 4-1 against Louisiana with all four wins coming in Lafayette, La.
    • Of those four road wins, two were via three-sets wins, one came in four sets and the other in five.
  • Every time Texas State has dropped a match to Louisiana, the Bobcats have responded by winning multiple consecutive matches.
    • Following a five-set loss in 2017, Texas State won five straight. After another five-set loss in 2019, the Bobcats won three straight matches.
    • A win over the Ragin' Cajuns on Friday night would mark back-to-back wins for Texas State since dropping a four-set match on Oct. 2, 2021, thus continuing the trend.
