GADSDEN, Ala. – The Texas State men's golf team finished in third place at the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate after shooting 1-under-par through 54 holes on the par-72, 7,467-yard course at RTJ Silver Lakes.
Texas State was one of three schools to shoot under par at the tournament, finishing with 863. Host UAB fired a total score of 837 to win the tournament, while Florida Gulf Coast finished in second place, three shots ahead of the Bobcats.
Fabian Sunden led Texas State after shooting five-under-par 67 in the third round and finished the tournament in third place with a five-under-par 211 total.
UAB's Khavish Varadan was the medalist after shooting 12-under-par and edged teammate Nick Robillard by one shot.
Kasper Nyland finished in a five-way tie for seventh place with a two-under-par 214 after firing a one-over-par 73 in the final round.
Evan White had a top 20 finish for the Bobcats, tying six other players with a one-over-par 217 through the three rounds.
Wyatt Koricanek and
Jack Burke both shot a seven-over-par 79 in the final round.
Texas State was one of five Sun Belt Conference teams that finished in the top 10 at the tournament. ULM finished in fourth place with a one-over-par 865, while South Alabama had the fifth-best score of 866. Troy finished in seventh place after shooting 10-over-par 874, and Louisiana ended the tournament in ninth place at 876. Troy's Will McFadden was the only other Sun Belt individual player to finish in the top 10 as he tied Jacksonville State's Jackson Singletary for fourth place at four-under-par.
Texas State returns to action on Oct. 11-13 when the Bobcats play in the Bentwater Intercollegiate at the Bentwater Country Club in Conroe, Texas. Finally, the Bobcats close out their fall schedule at the Hawaii Invitational on Oct. 25-26.
