OMAHA, Neb. – Texas State's run concludes after suffering a sweep at the hands of the No. 4 Nebraska (18-25, 17-25, 20-25) Thursday afternoon at the CHI Health Center.
The Bobcats (31-9) finished the match with a .185 hitting percentage behind 34 kills, while the Cornhuskers (15-2) hit .398 on the day with 50 kills. UN turned in seven blocks on the day to TXST's one, but the maroon and gold had 39 digs to the big red's 35.
"This loss does not define our season," said head coach Sean Huiet. "We have been through the wringer this year. This is one of the longest seasons we have ever been a part of. We told the girls to hold their heads up. We had 31 wins, single-digit losses and we battled against a very good Nebraska team who played very well. We played the most matches and had the most wins in the NCAA so I am blessed as a first-year coach. We have been battle-tested and our mental game has taken a huge step forward due to dealing with and overcoming different adversities throughout this season. Our whole team is coming back next season and we are adding three student-athletes so we are optimistic about next year, but for now, I jokingly told the girls I do not want them to look at a volleyball for a while. We started playing in August this season so I want us to enjoy some time off, finish school, and enjoy time with family. Then we will come back and get ready for the fall. Â Â Â
