SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State continues its tour through the Big 12 Conference as they host No. 6 Baylor at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 at Strahan Arena in San Marcos.
The Bobcats (27-5, 15-1 Sun Belt) have dropped two consecutive matches, including a recent 3-0 setback at No. 2 Texas on Monday night. The Bobcats are 2-2 against the Big 12, and 3-3- overall this spring. This season, TXST is hitting .246, while holding its opponent to a .161 hitting percentage. The maroon and gold average 13.8 kills, 12.9 assists 2.1 blocks, and 16.4 digs per set. The team has also collected 137 aces (1.2/set) this season.
Junior setter and three-time Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Year Emily DeWalt directs the offense with 10.90 assists per set and has a total of 1,221 helpers this season. DeWalt ranks No. 5 in the program's record book in career assists and averages 3.09 digs per set and has a total of 90 kills (.316), 52 blocks (four solos), and 16 aces.
Junior outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald leads the Bobcats with 3.57 kills per set (.327) and has 400 total kills this season. Fitzgerald has 87 total blocks (0.78 per set), including 19 solo blocks. Fitzgerald has 988 career kills and is 12 kills shy of becoming the 17th player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills.
Senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott paces TXST with 98 total blocks (0.94 per set) and has 21 solo blocks on the year. Scott also leads the team with a .358 hitting percentage behind 2.62 kills per set and contributes 37 digs and two aces to her season statistics.
SCOUTING BAYLOR
Although boasting a perfect 10-0 record at home, Baylor (15-4, 13-3 Big 12) is 5-4 when playing on the road, including a four-set loss at No. 2 Texas on Wednesday, March 3. BU is hitting .267 this season behind 16.92 kills per set while holding its opponents to a .149 hitting percentage. The team also averages 12.35 assists, 13.46 digs, 2.6 blocks, and have a total of 73 aces.
The Lady Bears are led by senior outside hitter and All-American Yossiana Pressley's 4.56 kills per set (.251) to go along with her 41 blocks and team-high nine solo blocks. Pressley has totaled six aces this year and averages 1.89 digs per set. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Harrison follows her lead with 3.06 kills per set (.279) and 34 total blocks. Junior setter Callie Williams leads the offense with 7.82 assists per set and has 52 kills, and a team-high 16 aces this year, while junior libero Shanel Bramschreiber also has 16 aces and anchors the defense with 3.68 digs per set.
SERIES HISTORY
Texas State leads the all-time series against Baylor 29-19-2, but the Lady Bears have won 14 of the last 15 matches, including the last six consecutive matches.
