Bobcats conclude regular-season at No. 9 Baylor

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State will travel north for its second match this spring against No. 9 Baylor at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 1 at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.  

The Bobcats (29-8, 15-1 Sun Belt) are coming off a sweep against North Texas for their 29th win this season. TXST has reached 29 wins for the first time since 2000 and marks the fourth time in program history that the club has reached 29 wins (1986, 87, 2000, 2020-21). This season, the Bobcats have a .236 hitting percentage and averages 13.69 kills on 12.82 assists per set. They also average 1.18 aces per set (154 total). On the defensive side, the team has 2.06 blocks and 16.31 digs per set. 

Junior outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald leads the Bobcats with 3.47 kills per set (.312) and has 447 total kills this season. She is 38 kills away from breaking into the top five of the program's record book for the most kills in a single season. Fitzgerald has 98 total blocks (0.76 per set), including 19 solo blocks. 

Junior setter Emily DeWalt directs the offense with 10.67 assists per set and has a total of 1,377 helpers this season. DeWalt ranks No. 5 in the program's record book with 3,843 career assists, and this season, she averages 2.99 digs per set, has a total of 101 kills (.299), 59 blocks (four solos), and 17 aces.

Senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott paces TXST with 106 total blocks (0.91 per set) and has 21 solo blocks this year. Scott also leads the team with a .339 hitting percentage behind 2.53 kills per set and contributes 42 digs and two aces to her season statistics. 

SCOUTING BAYLOR
The Lady Bears (18-5, 13-3 Big 12) are coming off a four-set loss to Big 12 automatic qualifier No. 5 Texas. BU has a .263 attacking percentage and holds its opponent to a .156 clip. Baylor also averages 13.33 kills, 12.37 assists, 1.03 aces, 2.58 blocks, and 13.64 digs per set.

Senior outside hitter and reigning national player of the year Yossiana Pressley leads the team with 4.66 kills per set on a .256 hitting percentage. Pressley also has 41 blocks this season, including a team-high 11 solo blocks. Junior setter Callie Williams and senior setter Hannah Sedwick help direct the offense with 7.11 and 6.98 assists per set, respectively. Williams has registered 55 kills and 21 aces this season, while Sedwick has 36 blocks and 34 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Kara McGhee averages a team-high 1.23 blocks per set and also hits .311 with a total of 155 kills this year. Junior libero Shanel Bramschreiber anchors the defense with 3.62 digs per set and leads the Bears with 24 total aces.

SERIES HISTORY
Texas State leads Baylor in the all-time series 29-20-2, although the Bears has won seven consecutive head-to-head matches and nine out of the last 10 meetings. In that same 10-match window, TXST is 0-5 at the Ferrell Center. BU defeated TXST in straight sets earlier this season in Strahan Arena (March 10).
