Bobcats set for match at TCU

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State looks to get back on track when they take on TCU at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Bobcats (25-3) are coming off a sweep at the hands of North Texas last weekend, but the team is still receiving 21 votes in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll. The TXST offense records a .253 hitting percentage, registering 14.22 kills, 13.29 assists, and has a total of 125 aces which ranks No. 2 in the NCAA. On the defensive side of the net, the maroon and gold hold their opponent to a .150 hitting percentage and averages 2.21 and 16.74 digs per set. 

Junior setter and three-time Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Year Emily DeWalt directs the offense with 11.27 assists per set and totals 1,104 total helpers this season. DeWalt ranks No. 5 in the program's record book with 3,570 career assists and is 686 assists away from moving to No. 4 all-time, a spot currently held by Natalie Spam (4,283). DeWalt also averages 3.21 digs per set and has a total of 78 kills (.325), 43 blocks (four solos), and 16 aces.

Junior outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald leads the Bobcats with 3.72 kills per set (.344) and ranks No. 1 in the NCAA with 365 total kills and 415.5 points. Fitzgerald has 82 total blocks (0.84 per set), including 19 solo blocks. 

Senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott paces TXST with 85 total blocks (0.94 per set) and has 19 solo blocks on the year. Her 85 total blocks ranked No. 2 in the NCAA. Scott also leads the team with a .357 hitting percentage behind 2.67 kills per set and contributes 31 digs and two aces to her season statistics. 

SCOUTING TCU
The Horned Frogs (1-10, 1-9 Big 12) is nursing an eight-match losing streak, including a 3-1 loss at Tarleton State on Thursday, Feb. 25 in Stephenville, Texas. TCU dropped its last seven Big 12 conference matches and is looking for its first win since knocking off Texas Tech in five sets on Oct. 8. TCU hits .164 this season, while its opponent hits .280 this season. The Horned Frogs also average 12.3 kills, 11.4 assists, 1.0 aces, 14.2 digs, and 1.6 blocks per set. 

Sophomore outside hitter Julia Adams leads the team with 3.81 kills per set (.182) and has 10 total blocks this season. Sophomore middle blocker MyKayla Myers follows with 2.07 kills per set and a team-high .345 hitting percentage. She also paces the team with 29 blocks, including four solo blocks. Sophomore setter McKenzie Nichols averages 10.33 assists per set and contributes 16 kills, 15 blocks, and six aces. 

SERIES HISTORY
Texas State leads TCU 6-3 in the all-time series and the two teams will meet for the first time since 2015. The series between the two clubs date back to 1996 and the Bobcats won the first five matches. Eight of the nine total matches have been played in San Marcos, but the last match in August 2015 was played in Fort Worth. TCU won that match, 3-0.
