Eaton turns in career performance as Texas State wins

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Sunday afternoon was everything Tianna Eaton has been working towards since arriving in San Marcos prior to the 2020-21 season as the UC Riverside transfer scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting as Texas State knocked off Texas College 105-37.

Eaton, a redshirt-senior out of Walnut, Calif., got into the scoring column on a second-chance layup less than 71 seconds into the second quarter. She added to her point total with jumpers on back-to-back possessions later in the third quarter, before capping the 10-minute stanza with a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left.

Throughout the game's final quarter, the 5-foot-10 guard continued blazing her way on the offensive end when Eaton scored 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting during the quarter. Her lone miss on the afternoon was her first field goal attempt – a 3-pointer — of the game with 47 seconds left in the first quarter and Texas State (5-2) holding onto a 20-9 lead.

Eaton, with her performance against Texas College, became the first Bobcat to score 20-or-more points in a game this season since Da'Nasia Hood scored 21 against Arlington Baptist on Nov. 29, 2021. Eaton also surpassed her Texas State career-high scoring total (9 against ULM on Jan. 22, 2021) and went passed her UC Riverside career total (19 vs. Long Beach State on March 6, 2018) with her final basket of the game.

FROM HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE

"These games are opportunities for us work on a lot of different things — from a chemistry standpoint — but it also allows us to get players, who have been out or haven't had an opportunity, back in the flow of things and that's what we saw today. A lot of different players had the opportunity today to step in and work on some things we've been working on and work on some things they need to get better at while also working on conditioning at the same time. Today also allowed us to give some rest to other players and they could sit, watch and learn as their teammates are out there on the court."
