SAN MARCOS, Texas – Twenty-seven Texas State student-athletes received their T-Rings as part of the 2021 graduation ceremonies on December 10-11.
The student-athletes include baseball player Chase Evans, football players Markeveon Coleman, Charles Fletcher, Nic Foster, Jacob Fryrear, Emmanuel Galvan-Vazquez, Tate Heitmeier, Ashton Johnson, Troy Lefeged, Zane Little, Nick McCann, Caeveon Patton, Jaquel Pierce, Braden Stringer, Eric Sutton, Caleb Twyford, and D.C. Williams, soccer players Holly Streber, Kayla Streber, and Ally Kewish, women's track and field's Chelsea Decoud, Alex Headley and Naomi Ferdinand, women's tennis player Sofia Murcia Rodriguez, and volleyball players Brooke Johnson and Tyeranee Scott. In addition, a T-Ring was presented posthumously to men's track and field athlete Jaylen Allen's family.
The fall graduates were on two NCAA Tournament teams and 10 Sun Belt Conference championship teams, won five Sun Belt Conference individual championships and competed as individuals at two NCAA Championships and three NCAA Regional Championships. In addition, they include six First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference, three Second-Team All-Sun Belt, and two Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt selections.
These student-athletes received a combined total of 57 Bobcat Academic Excellence Awards and 30 Star of Excellence awards after maintaining a 4.0 semester GPA. They were on Texas State's Dean's List 49 times. These graduates were named to the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll eight times after maintaining a GPA between 3.0-3.49 during an academic year. They were on the Sun Belt Academic Commissioner's List 18 times after maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher during an academic year.
The student-athletes earned bachelor's degrees in applied arts and sciences, applied sociology, biology, business management, criminal justice, digital media innovation, exercise and sports science, general studies, health and fitness management, health science, industrial engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and professional ethics.
The student-athletes received their Athletics "T" Rings, customized graduation stoles, and Sun Belt Conference Medallions for graduation commencement exercises.
The "T" Ring symbolizes excellence on the playing field and the classroom. The criteria for receiving the ring include 1) receiving a "T" letter from the Athletic Department, 2) completing NCAA eligibility at Texas State, and 3) earning a bachelor's degree during the same academic year or within one year after their NCAA eligibility expires.Sun Belt Conference medallions are presented to student-athletes at Sun Belt schools who have earned a bachelor's degree.
