HOUSTON, Texas – Mason Harrell and
Caleb Asberry combined for 44 points to lead the Texas State men's basketball team to its fourth straight victory with an 80-69 win at Rice on Tuesday night in Tudor Fieldhouse.
Harrell led the Bobcats with a season-high 24 points, and Asberry netted 20 for the Bobcats, who outscored Owls 54-31 in the second half to improve their record to 5-2 this season. Rice fell to 4-4.
The Bobcats trailed 38-26 at halftime but opened the second half with a 12-0 run. That tied the score at 38-38, and the Bobcats outscored the Owls 42-21 the rest of the way. Harrell tallied 20 of his 24 points after halftime to lead the rally.
Shelby Adams added 13 points, and
Nighael Ceaser scored 11 points and added six rebounds off the bench.
Carl Pierre led Rice with 16 points but scored just five points in the second half.

Texas State returns home to begin a four-game homestand when the Bobcats host Denver in a non-conference game on Sunday at 1 p.m. Texas State hosts Southwestern on Dec. 12, Lamar on Dec. 15, and Paul Quinn on Dec. 18. The Bobcats will close out its pre-conference schedule at Houston on Dec. 22.
