SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Texas State men's basketball team (1-1) plays its second straight game against a Southeastern Conference opponent when the Bobcats travel to Vanderbilt (1-0) on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The SEC Network + / ESPN+ networks are streaming the contest.
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Texas State enters the game with a 1-1 record after falling 84-59 at LSU last Friday night. The Bobcats opened the season with a 75-57 victory at Incarnate Word last Tuesday.
Caleb Asberry averages 16.0 points per game to lead the Bobcats, while
Isiah Small scores 11.0 points per game and leads the Bobcats in rebounding with a 7.5 average.
Shelby Adams averages 10.0 points per game.
This season marks the second straight year the Bobcats are playing against teams from the SEC. Texas State played at Mississippi State on Nov. 30, 2020. In that game,
Mason Harrell led the squad with 15 points, while Asberry chipped in 10 and Adams added eight.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Vanderbilt enters Sunday night's matchup coming off a 91-72 win against Alabama State on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The Commodores had four players score in double figures against the Hornets. Jordan Wright led the way with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting in just under 21 minutes of game action.
Earlier this week, Vanderbilt junior guard Scotty Pippen, Jr., was named to the John R. Wooden Award preseason top 50 watch list. The 50 student-athletes are early front runners for one of the most prestigious honors in men's college basketball. In addition, Pippen was named the preseason SEC Player of the Year by both the SEC and national media members last month and a preseason First-Team All-SEC selection by the conference's coaches as well.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's game between Texas State and Vanderbilt marks the first meeting between the two schools.
