MONROE, La. – Texas State secured its 10th win of the season as they showcased its defensive dominance in the wire-to-wire 57-47 victory against ULM Friday evening at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
With the win, The Bobcats (10-4, 4-1 Sun Belt) extended their winning streak to four games and did so by allowing 0.72 points per possession, the 11th best defensive effort in the last 20 years (KenPom). Overall, the Bobcats shot 46.8 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent from 3-point range, while the Warhawks (4-10, 2-5 Sun Belt) finished with a 39.0 percent field goal percentage and 37.5 3-point field goal percentage.
"Tonight was about defense. The guys locked in on the game plan and did their best to execute, which is all you can ask for," said interim head coach Terrence Johnson. "It is a true challenge to win on the road in this league, and although we are still at work, I love my team, and I love how we played. ULM is a well-coached and talented team. They will be back tomorrow, so our focus has to remain on what we need to do to go 1-0 every night."
Senior forward Isiah Small led the Bobcats with 15 points (5-of-8) and added six rebounds, two assists, and one block in the win. Junior guard Caleb Asberry followed with 11 points (4-of-9) and logged a career-high eight rebounds to lead the team. Asberry also had two steals, one assist, and one block.
Junior guard Marco Morency was the lone double-digit scorer for ULM as he finished with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-3 from behind-the-arc. He also led the Warhawks with six boards and three steals. Senior guard Josh Nicholas followed with eight points (1-of-7) and earned most of his points from the free-throw line (5-of-6).
FIRST HALF
It was all Texas State in the first half as the visiting team used a 15-2 run to build a 17-7 margin at the 11:57 mark. The Bobcats closed the stanza with six unanswered points and went into the half with a 27-13 lead. The Bobcats held the Warhawks to an opponent season-low 13 points in the first half and shot 45.8 percent from the floor. Asberry led the team with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a pair of triples. He also paced the team with five rebounds. ULM had six players get on the scoreboard and was led by Nicholas' three points (1-of-5). Â
SECOND HALF
Texas State grew its lead to 17 behind a 6-0 run in the early stages of the second half and led by as many as 23 points, 49-26, with roughly 10 minutes left to play. Although ULM outscored the Bobcats 34-30 in the half and held the visiting club without a field goal in seven minutes, TXST's lead never fell below 10 as they cruised to the 57-47 victory.

• Caleb Asberry extends his streak to eight games with 10-plus points. And has grabbed seven or more rebounds in consecutive games.
• Junior guard Mason Harrell's double-digit scoring streak ended at 13 games. Harrell finished with eight points, three assists, and three rebounds.
• Junior forward Alonzo Sule recorded his sixth career multi-block game and second of this season. He finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
• Senior forward Quentin Scott also added seven points.Â
