ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas State's women's basketball team (10-15, 3-11 Sun Belt) couldn't find their shooting eye, and UT Arlington (16-10, 10-4) took advantage in defeating the Bobcats 69-49 at the College Park Center Saturday evening.
Texas State registered nine steals and forced UTA into 19 turnovers, but the Bobcats hit just 13.3 (2-15) from the field in the opening quarter as the Lady Mavs raced out to a 20-5 lead.
The Bobcats scored their first two points in the game when
Da'Nasia Hood hit a jumper in the free-throw lane.
Kennedy Taylor added a jumper from the top of the key, and
Chelsea Johnson made one of her two free throws.
The Bobcats rallied in the third quarter and cut UTA's lead to eight twice when the Bobcats scored the first six points in the third quarter as Taylor made two field goals, and Hood added the other one. But UTA answered with a five-point run to push the lead back to 13.
Texas State came back again midway in the third quarter when Hood made a pair of free throws, and
Bailey Holle added a lay-up to pull the Bobcats to within 39-32.
However, UTA answered again when Terryn Milton jumper on the left side of the paint, and Maria Benson added a lay-up off a steal and a jumper in the paint to push the lead back to 45-32. Texas State didn't get any closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Kennedy Taylor led Texas State with 15 points and three assists, while
Da'Nasia Hood added 13 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Jayla Johnson came off the bench to score nine points and four blocked shots.
Marie Benson led UTA with 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Claire Chastain added 15 points, and Terryn Milton added 13. Misty Dossey came off the bench to net 10 points. UTA shot 49.2 percent from the field after opening the game with a .692 field goal percentage (9-13) in the first quarter.
NOTES
Kennedy Taylor's 15 points are the second-highest point total in a Sun Belt Conference game this season.
Da'Nasia Hood's scored 13 points and has scored in double figures in 18 games this season. She had a career-best 28 points versus UTA on Feb. 1.
