Texas State Softball Team Wins Fifth Straight Game

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (7-2) posted its fifth straight victory with a 9-1 victory over Wichita State (5-6) in the Bobcat Classic on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

Texas State starter Dalilah Barrera, who improved to 2-0 this season, had a no-hitter going through five innings before surrendering two hits and a run in the top of the sixth inning.

HOW THEY SCORED
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Tara Oltmann reached on a fielder's choice and scored from first base on a Hailee MacKay's misplayed fly ball in right-center. The next hitter, ArieAnn Bell, hit a home run between left-center and straight away centerfield.

The Bobcats added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bailee Carter singled through the left side and advanced to third on a double to right field by Oltmann. Cassie Valdez came in as a pinch hitter and laid down a bunt to second base, and Sydney McKinney's throw was late to the plate, allowing Carter to score. Oltmann and Marisa Cruz, who came in to run for Valdez, scored two more runs on a single by Sara Vanderford. Vanderford advanced to second on a throw to the plate and scored Texas State's final run in the inning when Caitlyn Rogers hit a single up the middle.

The Shockers scored their only run in the top of the sixth inning when Barrera walked Sydney McKinney and surrendered Wichita State's only two hits. McKinney scored the run on an infield hit to first base by Bailey Urban.

The game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning after Oltmann hit a walk-off two-run homer.
