SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State (1-0) takes on its first Division I opponent of the 2020-21 season when they travel to the Coastal Bend to challenge Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (1-0) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Bobcats are fresh off a 98-59 tune-up victory vs. UMHB at Strahan Arena on Nov. 25. The Bobcats had a good overall run as they shot 53.5 percent from the floor while holding The Cru to a 35.6 field goal percentage.
In the win, the Bobcats had four players score in double-figures, beginning with senior forward
Isiah Small's 17 points and game-high eight rebounds. Junior
Mason Harrell finished with 15 points and five assists, while graduate guard
Marlin Davis and junior guard
Caleb Asberry each dropped 10 points.
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI
The Islanders are coming off a 64-53 win over Division II member Texas A&M-International on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The team was led by junior guard Rasheed Browne's 20 points and sophomore guard Jalen White added a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Senior forward Perry Francois also contributed 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Overall, TAMUCC returns seven players who saw the court in 2019-20, including its two leading scorers, senior guard Myles Smith and sophomore guard Jordan Hairston. Smith averaged 13.2 points per game and Hairston added 12.9 points per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Texas State trails Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the all-time series 10-8, but has won the last two meetings with the most recent being a 61-55 contest in Corpus Christi on Dec. 5, 2018. Both teams are tied 5-5 when playing in Corpus Christi.
CHALK TALK
Beginning with the game against Incarnate Word on Dec. 5, the men's basketball staff will be hosting Chalk Talk 40 minutes prior to tip-off. Chalk Talk will be a presentation by one of the coaching staff members, followed by a meet and greet. Light refreshments will be provided.
