In-state battle set for No. 13 Texas State, UT Arlington

SAN MARCOS, Texas – It is a travel partner weekend in the Sun Belt Conference and the No. 13 Texas State (14-1, 9-0 Sun Belt) volleyball team sets its sites to compete against UT Arlington (8-1, 8-1 Sun Belt) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 and then at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
 
Both matches will be on ESPN+ and live stats will be provided for each contest.
 
The Bobcats are currently on an 11-match winning streak after securing their third weekend series sweep this season as they defeated Little Rock in three matches last weekend. TXST enters the weekend as the league leader in hitting percentage (.259), kills per set (14.48), and assists per set (13.69). The team also rank No. 7 with 1.28 aces per set. Defensively, the Bobcats rank No. 3 in the Sun Belt with 2.18 blocks per set and a .151 opponent hitting percentage. The team also sits No. 4 with 17.04 digs on average.
 
Junior outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald paces the Bobcats with 3.64 kills per set which ranks No. 6 in the Sun Belt and is No. 4 in the league with a .343 hitting percentage. Senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott leads the Bobcats with a .349 hitting percentage (No. 3 in the Sun Belt) and has 49 total blocks (0.94), including a team-high nine solo blocks. Scott is this week's Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the week after averaging 1.40 blocks per set against Little Rock, but also had a good offensive weekend and recorded a new career-high 17 kills in a single match.  Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Teske totals 104 kills (2.31 per set) and leads the team with 15 aces (0.33 per set, No. 8 in the Sun Belt). Teske also averages 2.64 digs per set and has 19 total blocks this season. Junior setter Emily DeWalt, is this week's Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Week for the second consecutive week and directs the offense with a league-best 11.53 assists per set and has registered 3.25 digs per set, 47 kills behind a .314 hitting percentage, and 10 aces. Last weekend, DeWalt made her way to No. 5 on the program's all-time career assists list and enters the weekend with 3,077 career assists. Junior libero Kayla Granado anchors the defense with 4.22 digs per set (228 total digs) that sits at No. 8 in the conference. Granado also has 12 aces this season, as well as senior setter, Brooke Johnson.
 
SCOUTING UT ARLINGTON
UT Arlington is on a three-match winning streak after knocking off ULM in Monroe, La. last weekend. The Lady Mavericks return to their home floor where they have a total of three matches played this season. UTA is a strong offensive unit, ranking No. 2 in kills per set (14.23), No. 2 in aces per set (1.74), No. 3 in assists per set (12.89), and No. 4 in hitting percentage (.214). The team also leads the league defensively with 19.77 digs per set and are in the middle of the conference at No. 6 with 2.07 blocks per set.
 
Junior outside hitter Brooke Townsend is the team's offensive leader with 3.37 kills per set (.260) that ranks No. 8 in the Sun Belt. Townsend also has 10 blocks and six aces this season. The Lady Mavericks have a pair of setters in junior setter Kylee Kapp and freshman setter Mollie Blank who register 5.90 and 5.22 assists per set, respectively. Kapp ranks No. 2 in the Sun Belt with 0.43 aces per set (13 total). Junior middle blocker Michaela Wright leads the team with 1.00 blocks per set (No. 5 in the Sun Belt) and sophomore libero Alli Wells leads the entire conference with 6.40 digs per set.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The Texas State-UT Arlington series is tied at 41 matches apiece, although the Bobcats have won the last 10 matches. The Bobcats trail in the series 16-17 when playing in Arlington.
