SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior offensive lineman
Aaron Brewer earned a spot on the 2019 watch list for the 21st annual Dave Rimington Award, the National College Football Awards Association announced Friday afternoon.
The Rimington Award has been presented to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football since 2000. Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman. For more on the Rimington Trophy and a list of past recipients, visit
www.rimingtontrophy.com.
Brewer is one of 80 Division I centers named to the Rimington Watch List ahead of the 2019 season. Each of the 10 conferences, along with two NCAA Independent programs, had representation on the initial list. To build the list, the Rimington Trophy Committee accepted nominations from all eligible programs across the country for consideration.
The Dallas native has established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the Sun Belt Conference throughout his three years in San Marcos. He was chosen as part of the All-Sun Belt First Team Offense by
Pro Football Focus (PFF) and named Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt by league coaches and media following the 2018 season. Per
PFF, he graded as the best run blocker in the Sun Belt for linemen with 200 blocking snaps with a grade of 78.8. He scored the second-best pass blocking grade in the league with an 86.2 after surrendering just one sack in 2018.
Brewer was selected to the 2019 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team by
Athlon Sports and was tabbed second team by the Sun Belt coaches and media earlier this summer. He also was named an All-Texas Regional offensive lineman by
Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine.
The NCFAA encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA and its 25 awards now boast over 800 recipients, dating to 1935. Visit ncfaa.org to learn more about the association.
The members of the NCFAA are unveiling their preseason watch lists over a 12-day period this month. Seventeen of the association's 23 awards select a preseason watch list and the NCFAA has spearheaded a coordinated effort to promote each award's preseason candidates.
The winner of the 2019 Rimington Award will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb. on Jan. 18, 2020.
