BOONE, N.C. - The Texas State women's tennis team (6-13, 2-8 Sun Belt) closed out its final road trip of the season falling 4-1 at Appalachian State (15-5, 9-1 Sun Belt) Sunday at the Deer Valley Racquet Club.
The Mountaineers, who clinched their first women's tennis conference championship in school history with the victory, won the doubles point and went on to clinch the match winning three of four decisions in singles matches
In the doubles matches, the Bobcats fell behind early when
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez and
Andrea Fuchs dropped a 6-0 decision against Jeannez Daniel and Rebecca Morse on court three. The Mountaineers clinched the point on center court where
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez suffered a 6-3 loss against Heidi Swope and Jose Maria Zacarias.
The Mountaineers clinched the victory when they won three of the top four-seeded matches. Texas State's lone victory came on court two where
Rishona Israel-Lewis defeated Kate Earnhardt in straight sets by a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Navajo-Melendez split the first two sets in her match against Zacarias on court 3. After dropping the first set 6-1, she came back to win the second 6-4 before falling 6-2 in the third set.
Joy Chia Ming Ming also put up a hard fight in her No. 4 match against Morse, falling 6-4 in both sets. Perez dropped the top-seeded match against Teodora Sevo by a score of 6-0, 7-5.
