SAN MARCOS, Texas – SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team captured the doubles point and three singles victories to win its Sun Belt Conference home opener 4-0 against Louisiana Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in Sun Belt matches, while the Ragin' Cajuns drop to 6-8 and 1-2 in conference play.
Texas State took an early lead in the match when it captured the doubles point for the sixth time this season.
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez secured a 6-2 decision over Dana Radovanovic and Clara Mantaux in the top-seeded match. The victory evened their record at 3-3 this year.
The Ragin' Cajuns won the No. 2 doubles match as
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Joy Chia Ming Ming dropped a 6-2 decision against Ai Noa Fabre and Hoda Habib.
Texas State clinched the doubles point when
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez and
Andrea Fuchs posted their third straight victory with a 6-3 triumph over Floriane Picaut and AK Harvey on court three.
Fuchs carried the momentum into singles play as she posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Milena Achlamov on court six.
In a matchup between two of the top three No. 1 singles players in the Sun Belt Conference this season, Perez defeated Picaut in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 after winning the final five points in the match on center court. The win improves her record to 9-3 in singles play this season.
Israel-Lewis clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Habib on court two, and improved her singles record to 7-4 this season.
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday morning when they host ULM in a Sun Belt Conference match beginning at 10 a.m.
