Texas State Announces 2019 Football Schedule

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Sun Belt Conference released its 2019 football schedules for its member institutions Friday. Texas State's schedule features 12 regular-season games with six home games and six road games. Starting times and additional television coverage will be announced at a later date.

"With spring football beginning on Sunday afternoon, we are excited to announce our 2019 schedule," new head coach Jake Spavital said. "The Sun Belt Conference is a competitive league with great games each week, and this season will be no different. We are looking forward to kicking off the season without having to leave the state until late October. This schedule allows us to compete at a high level and push our program forward to hopefully achieve our season goals, which include a postseason game."

Texas A&M (Aug. 31 at College Station, Texas)
Spavital begins his head coaching career at a familiar site when Texas State returns to College Station and plays Texas A&M on August 31. Spavital served as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Aggies from 2013-15. The contest will be the third overall meeting in the series and the first game since the Bobcats played the Aggies in College Station Sept. 22, 2005.

Wyoming (Sept. 7 at Bobcat Stadium)
Texas State returns to Bobcat Stadium and plays its home opener against Wyoming on Sept. 7. This marks the fourth overall meeting in the series. The last time the Bobcats and Cowboys met in San Marcos was Sept. 28, 2013 when Texas State won 42-21.

SMU (Sept. 14 at Dallas)
Spavital will coach against a familiar face when the Bobcats travel to SMU on Sept. 14. He worked as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under current SMU head coach Sonny Dykes at California in 2016-17. This will be the second game played in the series and second time the two teams have met in Dallas. The Bobcats lost 45-36 in the first meeting on Sept. 6, 2008.

Georgia State (Sept. 21 at Bobcat Stadium)
Texas State's Sun Belt Conference schedule begins on Sept. 21 when the Bobcats host Georgia State. The series is tied at 3-3 with each school winning on the road in the last two meetings. Texas State won 40-31 on Nov. 3, 2018 in Atlanta. Georgia State won the last meeting played at Bobcat Stadium 33-30 on Nov. 11, 2017.

Nicholls State (Sept. 28 at Bobcat Stadium)
The Bobcats play their final non-conference opponent hosting a former conference foe Nicholls State on Sept. 28. Texas State trails 16-14 in the series, but the Bobcats have won three of the last four games played between the two schools. This marks the first meeting since 2011 when the Bobcats left the Southland Conference.

ULM (Oct. 10 at Bobcat Stadium)
Texas State plays its third-straight home game on Thursday, Oct. 10 when they return to Sun Belt action and compete against ULM in a nationally-televised mid-week game on ESPNU. TXST and ULM meet for the 16th time in a series that began in 1986. Texas State has four wins against the Warhawks, including two victories in San Marcos.

Arkansas State (Oct. 26 at Jonesboro, Ark.)
Following the ULM game, Texas State will play four of its final six games on the road. The Bobcats begin the second half of their schedule traveling to Arkansas State on Oct. 26. This marks the first time the Bobcats and Red Wolves will play against each other before Nov. 1. Texas State's lone victory in the series came on Nov. 20, 2014.

Louisiana (Nov. 2 at Lafayette, La.)
The Bobcats play their second straight road game when they travel to Louisiana on Nov. 2. The Bobcats are looking for their first win against the Ragin' Cajuns. The series began on Oct. 5, 2013 in Lafayette when Texas State became a member of the Sun Belt Conference.

South Alabama (Nov. 9 at Bobcat Stadium)
Texas State returns home to host South Alabama on Nov. 9. The two teams have a 2-2 series record with each school winning two games on their home fields.

Troy (Nov. 16 at Bobcat Stadium)
The Bobcats play their final home game against Troy on Nov. 16. Texas State is looking to win its second game against Troy in San Marcos. The Bobcats have a 1-7 series record against the Trojans, with the victory coming on Oct. 4, 1997.

Appalachian State (Nov. 23 at Boone, N.C.)
Texas State travels to Appalachian State on Nov. 23. The series began in 2004 when both schools were in the FCS ranks. The Bobcats enter this year's game looking for their first win in the series after dropping four straight.

Coastal Carolina (Nov. 30 at Conway, S. C.)
The Bobcats close out the regular season with a road game at Coastal Carolina on Nov. 30. Texas State will be looking for their second straight victory in the series after defeating the Chanticleers in Conway Oct. 28, 2017.
