Bobcats Sink Islanders Behind Hood’s Season-High

SAN Marcos, Texas – Texas State turned defense into offense and outscored Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 19-5 in points off turnovers to down the Islanders 55-48 inside Strahan Arena on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood posted a season-high 19 points to lead the Bobcats (4-2) in scoring. Texas State snapped the Islanders' (4-3) three-game winning streak and moved to 4-0 at home.

Despite not scoring until the 3:55 mark of the second quarter, Texas State ended the period on an 11-2 run to hold a 22-17 lead at halftime. The scrappy TXST defense forced Texas A&M – Corpus Christi into 17 first half turnovers, but were only able to generate eight points off the Islanders miscues. The Islanders' seven second period points tied its season-low for fewest points in a quarter.

The Bobcats outscored the Islanders in every quarter and scored a game-high 18 points in the third. In the second half the Bobcats broke the Islanders full court pressure defense and outscored AMCC 8-0 in fast break points. Sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor was the key cog to break the press and scored six points with a season-high eight assists. The Bobcats took their largest lead of nine in the last minute of the game and led for 30 total minutes.

Contributions from freshman guard Keslyn King (5), senior guard Bailey Holle (5) and junior forward Lillie Moore (8) helped TXST score 22 from the bench.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi shot 46% (20-for-44), 25% from three (2-for-8) and 50% (6-for-12) from the foul line. The Islanders turned the ball over 25 times and were led by Alexes Bryant's 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Texas State shot 43% (23-for-54) from the field, 25% (4-for-16) from three and 78% (7-for-9) from the free throw stripe. TXST is now 15-6 all-time against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and have won eight of the last nine.
