CONWAY, S.C. – The Texas State football team's fourth-quarter comeback attempt came up short on Saturday when the Bobcats (3-9, 2-6 Sun Belt) suffered a 24-21 loss at Coastal Carolina (5-7, 2-6 Sun Belt) at Brooks Stadium.

Tyler Vitt got TXST on the scoreboard with a quick slant to
Mason Hays. The senior wide receiver took it to the house totaling 64 yards.
Alan Orona converted the PAT to tie the score at 7-7. The catch was the longest in Hays' career.
Hutch White completed an eight-yard pass to Vitt to cut the deficit to 14-13 with 9:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was the senior wide receiver's fourth career touchdown pass.
The second touchdown pass of the game for Vitt came with 1:31 remaining on the clock. He found
Jacoby Hopkins for a jump ball in the back, right corner of the end zone from 18 yards out. Orona converted the PAT to cut the deficit to 24-21.
Vitt finished the game 23-for-33 through the air totaling 285 yards. The sophomore threw for two touchdown and was intercepted once.
Robert Brown, Jr. was the top rusher for the Bobcats with 24 yards on six carries.
Hays cracked triple digits receiving for the second time in his career with a career and game best 117. His only other 100-yard receiving contest was on Nov. 19, 2016 when he totaled 100 yards at New Mexico State.
With seven catches, White finished the season with 67. It is the third most by a Bobcat receiver in a campaign. His catch total is the most by a Bobcat since Da'Marcus Griggs hauled in a season record 80 in 2009.
Bryan London II recorded his third tackle of the game during the Chanticleer's first drive of the second quarter. The takedown was the 448th in his career to become the Bobcats' all-time leader, surpassing Greg Pitts (1999-02). The senior linebacker ended the game with 14 tackles and 459 in his career.
London moved into second place on the TXST career list for solo tackles with 6:07 left in the third quarter. His takedown of Jacqez Hairston was the 236th of his career, moving past Pitts on the list. London concluded his collegiate career with 239 solo tackles.
Nikolas Daniels tied London with a game-high 14 tackles, six of them solo. Daniels was also one of four Bobcats to record 0.5 sack in the game along with
Nico Ezidore,
Frankie Griffin and
Caeveon Patton.
Also recording double-digit tackles in the contest for TXST was
Ishmael Davis with 11. It was the second time this season three Bobcats had double-digit tackles in a game, the first being against Wyoming.
KEY MOMENTS
CCU converted a 4th-and-1 from its own 45 to keep the first drive of the second quarter going. Nine plays later, Fred Payton completed a one-yard pass to Shadell Bell for the first score of the game.
A deep throw was intercepted by the Chanticleers' Chandler Kryst on their own 20 late in the third quarter. CCU would go on to convert a 47-yard field goal to extend its lead to 10 with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter.
Michael Hilts hauled in a 28-yard pass on the Bobcats' first play in the fourth quarter. A pass interference call three plays later set TXST up on the CCU 8-yard line that saw White complete his fourth career touchdown pass on the next snap.
A 7-yard completion on fourth down put the Chanticleers at the Bobcat 8-yard line. Two plays later CCU punched it in to retake a 10-point advantage with 4:03 left in the game.
