NEW ORLEANS – The Texas State men's basketball team saw its season come to an end in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals with an 80-54 loss to No. 1 seed Louisiana in the Lakefront Arena.
The Bobcats ended their season 15-18 while the Ragin' Cajuns are now 27-5.
Four times the lead changed hands in nearly the first five minutes with a layup from
Alex Peacock netting a layup to put TXST in front 5-4.
Frank Bartley followed with a layup as the Cajuns scored 24 of the next 27 points in the contest. UL would take a 37-15 lead into halftime.
The Bobcats came out and began the second half on an 8-3 run that saw a three-pointer courtesy of
Tyler Blount from the right corner cap off the run. The scoring stretch cut the deficit to 40-23; the closest Texas State would get the rest of the game.
Closing out the scoring for TXST were
Deris Duncan with two free throws and
Quentin Scott slamming home a dunk.
Nijal Pearson led the Bobcats with 14 points to give him 502 on the season, the 18
th most in program history. He also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
Tyler Blount netted nine points behind two three-pointers and recorded two steals.
Both
Isaiah Gurley and
Eric Terry finished with six points apiece off the bench.
Tre'Larenz Nottingham finished with a team best five assists and three steals.
