SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sophomore
Nijal Pearson finished with a team-high 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals in the Texas State men's basketball team's 77-50 setback to Georgia State Thursday night in Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats drop to 14-15 on the season and 7-9 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Panthers improve to 20-8 overall and 11-5 in conference action.
Following a Jeff Thomas three-pointer to open the game, TXST went on a 6-0 run as
Immanuel King and
Alex Peacock scored three points apiece. A trey from Pearson with 16:10 left in the first half increased the lead to 11-7.
After following behind by two,
Tre'Larenz Nottingham knocked three consecutive three-pointers for the Bobcats to give them their largest advantage of the game at 20-15 at the 12:10 mark.
Isaiah Gurley hit a triple from the right corner to again put TXST in front, this time at 23-21 with 10:34 showing on the clock. GSU responded by ended the half on a 14-2 run with the only points for TXST coming on a free throw apiece from King and Pearson.
Also reaching double-figures for the Bobcats was Nottingham with 10 points behind his three opening half treys. The junior also dished out a team-high five assists.
King blocked two shots to give him 63 in his career. He is now five shy of tying former teammate Kavin Gilder-Tilbury for fifth on the program's career list.
Next up for the Bobcats is a 4:30 p.m. matchup with Georgia Southern in Strahan Coliseum on Saturday.
