Bobcats Face First Road Test at Drake

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the first time this season the Texas State men's basketball team plays on the road when it takes on Drake at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Knapp Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
 
The Bobcats are 2-0 on the young season after defeating Air Force and Hardin-Simmons in the past week. The Bulldogs enter Saturday with a 1-1 record following a 100-71 loss at Colorado. Drake began the year with a 98-52 victory at home over Buena Vista, a Division III program located in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Bill Culhane will have the call on the radio on AM 1300 Austin. The game will also be streamed on the iHeartRadio and TuneIn apps.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Texas State is in its 98th season of men's basketball and the sixth under the guidance of head coach Danny Kaspar. He owns a 76-88 record in his six years in San Marcos. His career record stands at 541-281, making him the 23rd-winningest active head coach in all of NCAA Division I.
 
The Bobcats are led by Nijal Pearson. The junior became the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000-career points in a TXST uniform in the season opener. He is averaging 15.0 points per game and has made 44.4 percent of his shots attempts.
 
All four other starters are also averaging at least 10 ppg. Eric Terry is putting up 12.0 ppg following his 17-point career night against Hardin-Simmons. Jaylen Shead has netted 11 points in each game this season while Tre'Larenz Nottingham and Alex Peacock are contributing 10.5 and 10.0 ppg, respectively.
 
Shead leads the team with 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Peacock is the top rebounder at 8.0 per contest after nabbing a career best 12 on Tuesday night. Off the bench, both Isaiah Gurley and Quentin Scott come in average 5.0 rpg.
 
SCOUTING DRAKE
Drake was picked to finish ninth in the 10-team Missouri Valley Conference and are under the direction of first-year head coach Darian DeVries, a long-time assistant coach at Creighton. Nick Norton leads the Bulldogs in scoring (17.5), assists (4.5), steals (1.5), field goal percentage (72.2%), made three-pointers (7) and three-point shooting percentage (63.6%). Others contributing at least 10 points a contest are D.J. Wilkins (11.0) and Noah Thomas (12.5).
 
Nick McGlynn is averaging 9.5 ppg and paces the team with 8.5 rpg and a 69.2 free throw percentage. Others to watch out for offensively for Drake are Anthony Murphy (9.5), Tremell Murphy (9.0) and Liam Robbins (8.0).
 
The Bulldogs are 12-3 at home dating back to last season with all three setbacks coming in conference games.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between Drake and Texas State. For the Bobcats, it will be the second time playing a current member of the MVC. Only other games against a MVC foe was Missouri State in 1997 and 1952.
