Winning Streak Comes to an End Against Ragin’ Cajuns

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Saturday evening with an 80-55 loss to Louisiana in front of a crowd of 3,222 in Strahan Coliseum.

With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 13-8 overall and 6-2 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Ragin' Cajuns are now 17-3 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.

Both teams started off slow offensively in the first seven minutes going a combined 4-for-23 from the field. UL jumped out to a 5-0 advantage but TXST pulled to within one after a layup by Shelby Adams with 13:07 on the clock.

The Cajuns followed with a 15-2 run to take a 14-point advantage with nine minutes to go in the half. Back-to-back old-fashion three-point players by Isaiah Gurley and Tre'Larenz Nottingham combined with a layup from Immanuel King pulled the Bobcats to within 20-14.

Over the final six minutes, UL outscored TXST 12-6 to take a 32-20 advantage into halftime.

The Cajuns scored the first five points of the second stanza. Behind three-pointers courtesy of Tyler Blount and Pearson, the Bobcats were able to pull to within 40-28 with 16:43 remaining in the game. That would be as close as they team would get the rest of the way.

Pacing TXST offensively off the bench was Adams with 10 points. The freshman was 3-of-6 from the field with a made trey and went 3-for-4 at the free throw line.

Just missing out on a double-double was Alex Peacock with nine points and rebounds. The junior also led all players with three steals.

King netted seven points and retrieved seven boards, four coming on the offensive glass. He also blocked a shot to give him 55 in his career and tying Cameron Johnson for eighth place in program history.

As a team, the Bobcats were held to 32.2 percent shooting and were 3-for-13 (23.1%) from beyond the arc. They did tie UL on the boards with 39 apiece and held a 16-9 advantage on the offensive glass.

Next up for TXST is a trip to Georgia Southern on Thursday. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT in the Hanner Fieldhouse.
