Peacock Hits Buzzer-Beater to Down Trojans 72-70

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – With 3.2 seconds remaining, Alex Peacock received an inbound pass and got enough separation from his defender to hit a jumper from just inside the three-point line as the buzzer sounded to give the Texas State men's basketball team a 72-70 win over Little Rock Saturday evening in the Jack Stephens Center.

The Bobcats won their fifth consecutive game to improve to 12-7 overall and 5-1 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Trojans drop to 5-14 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.

"I feel very fortunate that we got another win at the buzzer. The good Lord must be looking down and shining down upon us," said head coach Danny Kaspar. "The kids played hard but we made crucial mistakes to let them back in at the end of the game. Alex Peacock hit a huge shot to win the game."

A trey courtesy of Shelby Adams gave TXST a 43-36 lead with 13:52 showing on the clock. Over the next 2:20, the Trojans netted nine consecutive points to go ahead by two. Tre'Larenz Nottingham answered with his second triple of the half to put the Bobcats back in front 46-45 with 11:31 to play.

Ryan Pippins made his lone trey of the game to give LR a 48-46 lead at the 10:51 mark. The Trojans would hold the lead or see the game for the next 4:16. Nottingham knocked down a three-pointer with 6:35 to play to put the Bobcats back in front.

TXST maintained the advantage until there were exactly six seconds remaining when Oliver Black tied the game on a dunk.

After the Trojans fouled Nottingham when he was driving down the sideline just past midcourt, Nijal Pearson inbounded the ball to Peacock for his second game-winning basket in the past week.

The first eight minutes of the game saw the team trade the lead three times and knot the score thrice. During that time, the largest lead for either team was three by TXST two times. The last of which was on Tyler Blount's second three-pointer of the game at the 13:13 mark.

LR pulled to within 21-20 after two Andre Jones free throws. The Bobcats would respond with a 7-0 run as all the points were scored at the charity stripe to take the largest lead of the game with 4:27 remaining in the opening stanza.

Six quick Trojan points cut the advantage to two. Pearson answered with a layup after grabbing an offensive rebound with just under three minutes on the clock.

A Cameron Corcoran trey made it a one-point game but Isaiah Gurley answered with a triple of his own the next time down the court.

TXST had a chance to increase its lead going into halftime but LR got a steal and the crowd saw Corcoran nail a three-pointer at the buzzer. The basket sent the teams into intermission with the Bobcats in front 33-32.

Nottingham led the way for TXST with 14 points, all of which came in the final 20 minutes. The junior was 5-for-8 from the field and 4-of-5 on long distance attempts. He also dished out a season-high tying six assists.

Both Pearson and King netted 12 points apiece. Pearson also finished with seven assists to match his career-high and grabbed five rebounds. King retrieved a team best eight rebounds and blocked a shot, the 53rd of his career to move into a tie for ninth on the program's career list with Trevor Cook (2005-06).

Adams contributed 11 points off the bench in 24 minutes of action. The Converse, Texas native made 5-of-7 from the field with a made trey.

Nedeljko Prijovic also had a big game off the bench. Playing 23 minutes, he scored six points and grabbed three rebounds.

TXST made 47.5 percent (29-61) of its shots including a 9-for-20 performance from long distance. The Bobcats did struggle at the free throw line going 5-of-9, all coming in the first half. They did outrebound the Trojans 29-27 with a 14-7 advantage on the offensive glass that led to an 18-8 lead in second chance points.

Next up for TXST is ULM on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. inside Strahan Coliseum. The game will air on KCWX out of San Antonio and on ESPN3.
