Bobcats Back Home to Face Islanders

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After three games in California, the Texas State men's basketball team is back home in Strahan Coliseum on Wednesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
 
The Bobcats enter the game 3-3 on the season while the Islanders are 1-4 having lost four straight.
 
Bill Culhane will have the call on the radio with the game being broadcast on Kiss 103.1 FM out of Austin and 89.9 FM KTSW out of San Marcos. Fans can also listen to the game through the TuenIn Radio app on their mobile devices.
 
Nijal Pearson is coming off a career-high tying performance of 23 points in a shootout victory over Pacific on Saturday. For the season, the sophomore is leading the team with 16 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He has made 42.5 percent of his shots and has made 14 three-pointers with a 41.2 percentage from beyond the arc.
 
Heading into the contest, Tyler Blount is 19 in the nation with a 55.6 three-point percentage having made 15-of-27 shots from long distance. He is averaging 10.5 ppg while connecting on 22-of-41 (53.7%) of his shot attempts.
 
Immanuel King is the third TXST player to be averaging double-figures in points at 10.2. The senior has made a team-high 70.0 percent of his field goal attempts and blocked six shots on the season. He is tied for third on the team in rebounding at 5.2 per contest.
 
Coming off the bench, Eric Terry and Alex Peacock are putting up 7.5 and 6.7 ppg, respectively. Peacock paces the Bobcats with a 94.4 free throw percentage and eight steals, while grabbing 6.0 rpg. Terry has made 15-of-19 shot attempts and is 15-for-20 at the charity stripe.
 
Marlin Davis is dishing out a team-high 3.8 assists per game. He is also third on the squad with four steals on the year.
 
Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off a 72-58 loss at UTSA on Friday. Other losses for the Islanders this season have been to Baylor, Georgia and UT Rio Grande Valley. The lone win for the team this season was its season opener against Our Lady of the Lake. TAMUCC needed a buzzer beater to defeat the Saints 69-68.

Joseph Kilgore leads the Islanders with 16.4 ppg and 6.6 rpg in 35.8 minutes per contest. He is shooting 36.1 percent from the field but is just 6-for-23 (26.1%) on three-point attempts.

Also averaging double-digits in points is Kareem South at 13.2. The redshirt sophomore has made a team-high 44.2 percent of his shots, 52.6 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent at the free throw line. His 10 made treys and nine steals are also the most on the squad.

Emmanuel Toney saw his first action of the season against the Roadrunners and produced 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting with all of his made shots being three-pointers. He also converted both of his free throw attempts in 31 minutes of action off the bench.

Leading the team with 3.3 apg is Myles Smith. The freshman point guard is putting up 9.8 ppg on 38.2 percent shooting.

As a team, TAMUCC is scoring 62.6 ppg, 9.4 fewer than the team surrenders, with a 39.9 field goal percentage, 34.8 three-point shooting percentage and 67.0 percentage at the free throw line. The Islanders are grabbing 33.2 rpg, force 18.2 turnovers per game, recording 7.0 steals per game and 2.4 blocks per contest.

All-Time vs. Islanders
Leading the all-time series 10-6 is TAMUCC. The Islanders have won the last two meetings that defeat the Bobcats 73-69 last season in San Marcos. TXST's last win in the series came on Feb. 15, 2012 at home by the score of 79-61. That game was also the last time the program's met as Southland Conference members. When playing in Strahan Coliseum, the Bobcats are 2-5 all-time against the Islanders.
