SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team heads out to Stockton, California this week to conclude the Men Against Breast Cancer Showcase. First up is Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
The Bobcats are 1-2 on the season after defeating UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. The Lions enter with a 0-5 record.
Bill Culhane will have the call on the radio with the game being broadcast on Kiss 103.1 FM out of Austin. Fans can also listen to the game through the TuenIn Radio app on mobile devices.
Pacing TXST offensively is
Nijal Pearson at 15.3 points per game. The Beaumont, Texas native is tied for the team lead as well. He is second with 8.0 rebounds per game after tying his career-high with 11 against the Vaqueros.
Tyler Blount is the Bobcat averaging double-digits in points at 10.7 per contest. He is shooting a team-high 46.2 percent from three-point range and made a team best six triples. Overall, the senior has made 11-of-20 shots.
Coming into the game second in field goal percentage (64.3%) and free throw percentage (76.9%) is
Immanuel King. The Rocky Mount, North Carolina native has blocked a team-high four shots and is putting up 9.3 ppg.
Nedeljko Prijovic paces TXST with 9.0 rpg and a 69.2 field goal percentage while contributing 8.7 ppg. Adding 7.0 ppg off the bench is
Eric Terry.
Marlin Davis is dishing out a team-high 2.7 assists per game. He is also third on the squad with two steals on the year.
Scouting Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Arkansas-Pine Bluff is coming off a 57-47 loss at Air Force on Monday. The Lions have also dropped games to Hawaii, North Dakota, SMU and Troy. UAPB has lost 10 straight dating back to last season with the last win coming on Feb. 11 at home against Southern. The last non-conference victory away from home for the Lions came on Nov. 28, 2015 against Southeastern Louisiana in the Barclay Classic in Brooklyn, New York.
Martaveous McKnight is the only player on the team averaging double-figures in points at 19.4 per contest and paces the squad with 4.4 rpg. He has made 44.8 percent of his shots with 12 of his 30 makes coming from beyond the arc. The guard has also converted 25-of-30 (83.3%) free throw attempts.
Charles Jackson enters the game averaging 8.8 ppg but has made only 32.6 percent of his field goal attempts and 31.0 percent of his three-point shots. Contributing 5.6 ppg and second on the squad with 3.4 rpg is Trent Steen.
Both Travon Harper and Joe'Randle Toliver are putting up 5.0 ppg. Leading the team with 1.8 apg is Quamauri Hardy.
As a team, the Lions are scoring 56.4 ppg with a 37.2 field goal percentage, 30.2 three-point shooting percentage and 69.1 percentage on at the free throw line. They are grabbing 28.0 rpg and have a -12.8 rebounding margin. Of the 14.4 turnovers per game that UAPB forces, 8.6 are the result of a steal.
