Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Texas State Falls at TCU, 82-58

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season at the hands of the TCU Horned Frogs, 82-58, on Saturday afternoon inside the Ed & Rae Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (3-0) held a seven point lead at the break over Texas State (2-1). The Horned Frogs jumped out to a quick 13-5 lead before head coach Zenarae Antoine called a timeout four minutes into the contest. The Bobcats were able to settle into the flow of the game, playing the remainder of the half to a virtual tie. Texas State trailed by seven at the half.

The home team came out of the locker rooms on fire, pouring in 32 points in the third quarter. The offensive explosion pushed their lead to 21 entering the final 10 minutes.

TCU center Jordan Moore had a career day, dropping 28 points on the afternoon. The Bobcats had no answer for the post, allowing Moore to convert on 14-of-16 shot attempts. She also hauled in eight rebounds and rejected five shots. Moore was a big reason TCU outscored TXST in the paint, 48-10.

Toree Thompson was a big factor in the offensive surge in the second half. The TCU guard scored 12 of her 14 points in the third frame. She drilled all four of her 3-point attempts, giving the Horned Frogs a lethal inside-out combination.

For the first time this season, the Bobcat offense struggled to put the ball in the hoop. The size and length of the TCU defense bothered TXST all afternoon, forcing the Bobcats to shoot 17-of-61 (27.9-precent) from the floor and 6-of-29 (20.7-percent) from behind the arc. TCU came into the contest as the sixth best team in the country in blocked shots, turning back 10.5 per game. This afternoon, the Horned Frogs swatted eight shots from the visiting Bobcats.

The TCU zone forced the Bobcats to play patient, swinging the ball from side-to-side before finding the open shot. This led to 13 assists for TXST on their 17 made field goals. Texas State found most of its offensive success at the charity stripe, as the team sank 18-of-20 (90.0-percent) free throws.

Despite the height discrepancy, the Bobcats fought tough on the glass. TXST ripped down 15 offensive boards, 10 more than TCU. In total the Horned Frogs only outrebound Texas State 36-31. The Bobcats also managed to win the turnover battle, forcing the Frogs into 16 mishaps.

Senior Ericka May was the team's leading scorer, tallying 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. She also chipped in three rebounds, three steals and a couple of assists. She paced Texas State with 30 minutes of game time.

For the second consecutive game, all 12 Bobcats saw playing time. In total, 10 scored in the contest. Coach Z saw her team score 21 points off the bench, led by freshman Chania Wright, who scored eight points. Zelor Massaquoi continued her steady play off of the bench, scoring a season-high six points and pulling down a pair of rebounds.

Texas State will conclude its four game road trip to open the 2017-18 campaign with a road game in Houston, taking on the Texas Southern Tigers. The intra-state matchup is slated for a 6 p.m. tip on Nov. 21.
