SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State volleyball team looks to continue its six-match win streak when the maroon and gold plays host to UTA at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 inside Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats (14-7, 5-1 SBC) are coming off a 3-1 midweek triumph over TCU, while the Mavericks (8-11, 2-4 SBC) have dropped four of their last five contests.
AMERICA'S LONGEST-TENURED STAFF
•   The Texas State full-time coaching staff consists of head coach
Karen Chisum, associate head coach
Tracy Smith and assistant coach
Sean Huiet.
•   The trio has been at Texas State for a combined 66 years (38/16/12), a mark which is by far the highest in the nation for any coaching staff. The next closest is Texas A&M at just 52 years, while Penn State ranks third at 47 years.
•   For comparison's sake, the respective coaching staffs of this week's opponents of TCU (9) and UTA (3) have only been at their schools for a combined 12 total years.
•   Not counting Little Rock's 45 years, the other 10 Sun Belt Conference schools have only 82 combined years of tenure. Of the bunch, Appalachian State leads at 18 years, while Louisiana ranks second at 12.
A LOOK AT TEXAS STATE
•   The Bobcats have the most wins overall (14) and the most road wins (7) in the Sun Belt Conference. They are also second-best in win percentage (.667), fewest losses (7) and home victories (5).
•   TXST presently leads the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.163), assists (12.83) and kills (13.54), while ranking second in digs (16.33) and fourth in blocks (2.23).
•   Other than digs in 2013, Texas State has never finished a campaign leading the Sun Belt in a statistical category.
•   The maroon and gold became members of the SBC in 2013.
•   Texas State finished second in the SBC West Division last year and advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 SBC Championship.
•   TXST is 5-2 at home, 2-4 on neutral grounds and 7-1 in true road matches this season.
•   The Bobcats own nine non-conference victories this year, which is the most since 2013.
A LOOK AT UTA
•   The Mavericks sport an 8-11 record this season with a 2-4 ledger in Sun Belt Conference action.
•   UTA collected six non-conference victories and has topped both Troy and Appalachian State during league play.
•   The team has suffered losses to SBC opponents South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, Little Rock and Arkansas State.
•   UTA will roll out a quartet of players who are all ranked in the Sun Belt stats. Zhanelle Geathers (3.62) and Qiana Canete (3.55) are third and fourth, respectively, in kills per set this season, while Kailyn Gilbreath ranks sixth in the league at 9.00 assists per set. During conference play, Libbie Vickers has put herself in third with 5.05 digs per set.
•   UTA leads the all-time series 41-35, but Texas State has won 23 of the last 30 meetings. The Bobcats have also captured 14 of the last 16 contests, including each of the last four.
LAST TIME OUT
•   Texas State earned a 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 15-25, 25-16) victory over TCU Tuesday night inside Strahan Coliseum.
 •   The contest doubled as the 11th Annual Pink Match for the Bobcats, who held a silent auction and took donations for Pink Heals Hays County. The triumph was the first over the Horned Frogs since Sept. 25, 2007 and the first over a Big 12 Conference program since Sept. 10, 2013 (Baylor).
 •   TXST earned its sixth win a row and was led offensively by
Amy Pflughaupt and
Megan Porter. Both finished with double-doubles, with Pflughaupt providing 18 digs and 10 kills. Porter chipped in 14 kills and 13 digs.
Madison Daigle (13 kills, .500 attack percentage, eight blocks) and
Jaliyah Bolden (nine kills, eight blocks) had monster nights in the middle, while
Micah Dinwiddie had 16 digs.
Erin Hoppe posted 39 assists and tied her career high with 14 digs for her first double-double of the season.
•   Texas State had match highs in kills (53-45), attack percentage (.179-.121), assists (49-42), digs (77-63), and blocks (12-10). Both sides had a solo ace.
KNOCKING OFF GIANTS
•   Texas State has earned marquee victories over the past two weeks against Coastal Carolina and Arkansas State.
•   The Bobcats knocked off the Chanticleers 3-0 in Conway on Oct. 1 before taking down the Red Wolves by an identical 3-0 margin in Jonesboro on Oct. 7.
•   The shutout loss was the first for the Red Wolves in SBC play since Nov. 22, 2014.
•   Coastal Carolina suffered its first home sweep in a conference match since Oct. 29, 2011, when the team was a member of the Big South Conference. It was also just the second loss overall as members of the Sun Belt.
•   CCU is the defending league champions, while A-State is currently the reigning SBC West Division champs.
•   The two sides met in the SBC Championship match last year and were projected by the league's coaches to have repeat efforts in 2017.
•   No other member of the Sun Belt can lay claim to recording wins over both programs this year.
•   The Chanticleers (5-1 in league play this season) joined the conference in 2016, and they have only suffered two losses. Arkansas State defeated them in the regular season last year.
BREAKING OUT THE BROOMS
•   The Bobcats have earned 3-0 victories in each of their last five league outings.
•   Over the stretch, the maroon and gold has knocked off Troy, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Little Rock and Arkansas State.
•   The last time TXST had at least five-consecutive shutout victories came back in 2000, when the maroon and gold amassed a school-record streak of 12 consecutive 3-0 wins.
•   Each of the last four shutouts have been on the road, which ties the school record for most consecutive 3-0 triumphs away from home.
•   The last such streak also came in 2000.
HOPPE, PFLUGHAUPT HONORED BY SBC
•  Â
Erin Hoppe and
Amy Pflughaupt collected weekly Sun Belt Conference honors on Oct. 10.
•   Hoppe earned her second-straight SBC Setter of the Week laurel. Pflughaupt was selected for the first time in her career as the SBC Offensive Player of the Week.
 •   The duo helped lead the TXST volleyball team to a pair of 3-0 road wins at Little Rock and Arkansas State.
•   In the victories, Hoppe registered the Sun Belt's top two setting performances for three-set matches. She dished out a career-high 47 assists against the Trojans before distributing 42 against the Red Wolves. Overall for the week, Hoppe posted 89 assists (14.83 assists/set), 15 digs (2.50 digs/set), four blocks (0.67 blocks/set) and three kills (0.50 kills/set).
•   Pflughaupt tallied 5.00 kills per set (30 total) on a .338 attack percentage, while adding 15 digs, one solo block and one assist. She posted career-highs in both kills (19) and hitting percentage (.357) in the victory over the Red Wolves, while adding eight digs. She began her week with 11 kills and just four errors (.304) to go along with seven digs and one block against the Trojans.
•   Hoppe now has four career weekly accolades on her resume (Oct. 10, 2016 / Oct. 24, 2016 / Oct. 2, 2017). Pflughaupt became the third Bobcat to be selected as offensive player of the week since the maroon and gold joined the Sun Belt. She joined Amari Deardorff (Sept. 2, 2013) and
Kelsey Weynand (Oct. 10, 2016).
