SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State volleyball team will host the 2016 Creed & Crests Classic Tournament that takes place this weekend in Strahan Coliseum and includes teams from Stephen F. Austin, Kennesaw State and Tulsa. The Bobcats open the tournament against Stephen F. Austin on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Texas State will also face Kennesaw State at 7 p.m., and compete against Tulsa on Saturday at 2 p.m. The other matches on Friday include Kennesaw State against Tulsa at 12:30 p.m. and Stephen F. Austin facing Tulsa at 5 p.m. Kennesaw State will face Stephen F. Austin at noon on Saturday.

Texas State Notes Â
* Texas State enters the tournament looking for its second win of the season. Â
*The Bobcats were picked to finish second in the Western Division of the Sun Belt Conference behind defending conference champion Arkansas State in preseason polls.
* Texas State has a 1-3 record, but is ranked third among Sun Belt teams with a 2.71 blocks average. Â
* Â The Bobcats started their season at the North Texas Challenge Tournament and dropped their first match against 15th-ranked Ohio State, before defeating intrastate rival North Texas, 3-1. Texas State also fell against Nevada in its final match of the tournament.
* Last Tuesday, Texas State played in front of the largest crowd at a volleyball match in Strahan Coliseum when the Bobcats dropped a 3-1 hard-fought decision against Baylor.

Jordan Kohl led the Bobcats with 21 kills and a .556 attack percentage against the Bears.
Kelsey Weynand also had 13 kills.

Emily Shelton had a double-double of 36 assist and 12 digs.
Micah Dinwiddie also reached double digits with 14 digs and Alex Sliver with 19 digs. Â
Scouting Stephen F. Austin
* Picked to win the Southland Conference in the league's  preseason poll, Stephen F. Austin enters the tournament with a 2-1 record. The Lady Jacks are tied with Central Arkansas and A&M-Corpus Christi atop the SLC standings.

* SFA senior Justice Walker was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week after her performance in the Country Inn Suites Green Bay Innovational All-Tournament Team. She leads the conference in blocks and blocks per set at 15 and 1.50 and also recorded 22 kills in ten sets. Â
Scouting Kennesaw State
* Kennesaw State was picked to finish second behind 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference champion Lipscomb in the league's preseason polls. Kennesaw State earned 50 points in the poll, while Lipscomb earned 56 points in the poll.

* Â Kennesaw State also enters the tournament with a 1-3 record.
* The Owls also had three players, Anaiah Boyer, Sydni Shelton, and Kristi Piedimonte earn preseason All-ASUN Conference honors. Â
* For her second consecutive year, Kennesaw State's Katarina Morton was voted the preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. She enters the Creed and Crest Tournament leading the in both digs and digs per set this year. Â
Scouting Tulsa Â
* Tulsa was ranked seventh in the preseason American Athletic Conference coaches' poll with 48 points.
* The Golden Hurricane are 2-1 this year, and rank second among league with 219 digs and 18.25 overall percentage.
* Tulsa's Eric Bohannon is a preseason All-Conference selection after being named All-AAC First-Team the last two years.
