SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas State volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback at UTSA in the Bobcats' second match of the Roadrunner Roundup in San Antonio, Texas. The Bobcats won set one 25-22, but UTSA rebounded with win in sets two (25-12), three (25-20) and four (25-20) to secure the match.

Texas State is now 7-7 on the season after splitting two matches on the opening day of the Roadrunner Roundup, defeating Texas Tech and falling to UTSA. The Roadrunners improved to 7-3.

Freshman Megan Porter paced the Bobcats with 11 kills, while fellow freshman Marissa Kindred hit .375 to lead the team. Micah Dinwiddie counted 10 digs and Shelby Vas Matt served three aces.

UTSA's Dajana Boskovic scored a match-high 24 kills to go with seven digs and two block, while hitting .250

UTSA closed the match hitting .308 to Texas State's .123. The Roadrunners also finished with advantages in kills (54-42), blocks (11-8) and digs (48-34).

The opening set of the match was tightly contested as the sides exchanged the first 26 points. UTSA took a brief 15-13 lead; however, following a Roadrunner service error Lauren Kirch reeled off three straight kills to give the Bobcats the lead at 17-15. UTSA tied the set again at 18, but the Bobcats scored six of the next eight points and went on for the 25-22 win. Kirch ended the set hitting .667 with four kills to pace the Bobcats.

The second set started with three points to the Bobcats and Texas State a later took an 11-9 lead, but UTSA responded with a 16-1 run to take the set 25-12 and knot the match 1-1.

Texas State again took an early lead in the third set, but UTSA counted the next eight points, fueled by three points from Boskovic, for an 8-2 lead. The Bobcats would get no closer than three the rest of the way as UTSA hit .312 on the way to a 25-20 set win.

With the score tied 4-4 in set three Texas State went on a 5-0 as Kirch registered a pair of aces for 9-4 lead. The advantage would be short lived as UTSA put down eight unanswered points, giving the home standing Roadrunners the 12-9 advantage. Texas State later trimmed the UTSA lead to 18-15, but the Roadrunners' .219 hitting percentage and 14 kills were too much for the Bobcats to overcome as UTSA secured the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.

Texas State concludes its time at the Roadrunner Roundup and the nonconference portion of its season Friday at 3 p.m. against Wichita State.
