SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State University volleyball team concludes the nonconference portion of its 2016 campaign Thursday and Friday at the UTSA-hosted Roadrunner Roundup at the UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The Bobcats are slated to face Texas Tech at 1 p.m. and the host Roadrunners at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Texas State will close its time at the tournament against Wichita State Friday at 3 p.m.

TEXAS STATE NOTES
- Texas State enters the tournament with a 6-6 record and have split its last four matches, posting wins over CSU Bakersfield and Portland and falling to Utah and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- The Roadrunner Roundup is Texas State's fourth nonconference tournament of the season. The Bobcats are 5-4 in tournament matches, including a pair of wins at their own Creeds and Crests Classic.
- The Bobcats rank 10th in the nation with 106.5 total team blocks, 13th with 531 team assists and 17 with 565 total kills.
- Junior right side hitter Jordan Kohl leads the Bobcats with 127 kills on the season for an average of 3.10 kills per set. Lauren Kirch and Megan Porter are tied for second on the team with 80 total kills this season.
- Defensively, Texas State uses a team effort as seven players have more than 50 digs with Alex Silver leading the team with 77.
- Through 12 matches this season, the Bobcats are outhitting their opponents .223 to .210 and lead in kills (12.8-12.0) and blocks (2.4-1.8).
- Texas State ranks in the top five in the Sun Belt in kills (second, 12.94), blocks (second, 2.46), hitting percentage (third, .231) and assists (third, 12.17).
- Erin Hoppe leads the Bobcats with 350 assists and Emily Shelton follows with 108 assists through the Bobcats' first 12 matches of the season.
- Kohl ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with 3.24 kills per set.
- Kohl was named a preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection by the league's head coaches after she earned second team All-SBC honors last season. She led the Bobcats with 320.8 total points after hitting .246 and averaging 2.78 kills and 0.59 blocks per set.
- It was quite a summer for Kohl, who won a pair of Gold Medals while playing for Team USA in the Pan American Deaf Regional Championship and the World Deaf Volleyball Championship.
SCOUTING TEXAS TECH
- The Red Raiders enter the tournament with a 9-2 record and are hitting .274 as a team, average 13.48 kills, 12.60 assists, 14.82 digs and 2.31 blocks per set.
- Texas Tech captured the title at the Texas Tech Invitational last weekend after going 4-0 with wins over Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, UT Rio Grande Valley and Oral Roberts. Lauren Douglass was named Tournament MVP after racking up 51 kills and 20.0 total blocks at the event.
- Douglass has a team-high 138 kills on the season, nearly 40 more than teammate Toni McDougald who ranks second with 79 kills.
- Reyn Akiu leads the team with 197 digs.
SCOUTING UTSA
- UTSA boasts a 6-3 record after posting a 3-0 mark at the Oklahoma-hosted Nike Invitational this past weekend, picking up wins over Oklahoma, Lamar and Ohio.
- After helping UTSA to its second tournament crown of the season at the Nike Invitational, Dajana Boskovic and Shelby Williams were tabbed the Conference USA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
- The Roadrunners head into the week with a .279 team hitting percentage and average 13.1 kills, 12.5 assists, 13.2 digs and 1.9 blocks per set.
- Boskovic leads UTSA with 141 total kills, good for a 4.7 per set average. Also over the 100-kill mark this season is Marijeta Runjic with 102.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
- The Shockers are 5-3 overall after a 2-1 showing at the Colorado State-hosted Rams Volleyball Classic last week, defeating Colorado State and Samford via three-set sweeps, but falling to No. 3 Texas 3-1.
- Jody Larson leads Wichita State with 98 kills. Abbie Lehman has 80 kills on the season, has a team-best .444 hitting percentage and paces the squad at the net with 28 total blocks.
- Emily Hiebert has registered a team-high 286 assists and Giorgia Civita leads her squad with 85 digs.
- The Shockers are hitting .293 on the season, while averaging 13.9 kills, 12.9 assists, 15.7 digs and 1.7 blocks per set.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats start Sun Belt Conference play Sept. 23 at Troy followed by a Sept. 25 match at South Alabama. The Bobcats return to the Strahan Coliseum Sept. 30 for the annual Pink Out Match against conference newcomer Coastal Carolina.
